McMaster Children’s Hospital & McMaster University Medical Centre

McMaster Children’s Hospital is the regional referral centre for children who require specialized services in south-central Ontario, and is the fourth largest provider of inpatient pediatric services in Canada. With more than 215,000 patient visits a year, we provide a full range of specialized pediatric services including a dedicated emergency department, 40 outpatient clinics, the province’s largest neonatal intensive care unit and the only pediatric trauma centre in the region. In addition, a range of specialized outpatient services operate at the Chedoke site, including autism, developmental pediatrics and rehabilitation, and mental health. It is also home to the CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research and the internationally renowned Offord Centre for Child Studies.

McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC) delivers a wide range of adult women’s reproductive health services including high-risk obstetrics. It also serves as the home for a range of adult outpatient clinics and day surgery. The site hosts one of Canada’s premier digestive disease programs which, in conjunction with McMaster University, conducts more digestive disease research than any other program in the country.

Working within this value system, the duties of the Business and Community Engagement Development Officer will include but not be limited to the description that follows.

Position Summary:

The Administrative and Development Coordinator, is responsible for administrative support and the support of McMaster Children’s Hospital and McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC) through community fundraising initiatives. His or her exceptional organizational talents and database management skills are matched by an ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with donors and volunteers in person, by phone or in writing.

The Development Coordinator takes a lead role in the organization of events that benefit MacKids and MUMC and is required to function independently, exercising a considerable amount of initiative, innovation and resourcefulness to carry out Foundation plans. All activities are geared to enhancing the community’s positive relationship with all hospitals within the Hamilton Health Sciences family of hospitals and maximizing the funds raised and received.

Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

1.  Under the direction of the VP of Development, support the execution of the MacKids Walk and Wheel for Miracles and Miracle Weekend events

2.  Support 3rd party events portfolio of existing and new community events that support MacKids or MUMC.

3.  Support administrative activities and the VP of Development for McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Mac Kids Walk and Wheel for Miracles:

Provide content and manage updates for the Mac Kids Walk Wheel Website and Mac Kids Facebook page; manage event prizing, including solicitation, collection and distribution; manage distribution of promotional materials; support participants and sponsors through face-to-face, online, phone and email support; assist with logistics and event set up and tear down; support post event sponsor and participant stewardship including letters of acknowledgment, plaques and stewardship packages.

Business and Community Engagement/ 3rd Party Events:

Obtain and review event agreements from organizations and individuals planning third party fundraising events for approval by the Foundation; ensure that all organizations and groups are receipted and recognized according to the donor recognition vehicles within Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation; support events through providing materials, attending or promotion through Foundation approved channels; provide stewardship through written reports, letters or cheque presentations.

Administrative support of Vice President of Development:

Support the timely and accurate maintenance of all gifts, solicitations and donor information in Raiser’s Edge database. This includes tracking and fulfillment of pledges, donor recognition activities, and receipting and timely acknowledgment; support the preparation of Mac Kids Foundation Fundraising Council meetings materials; assist with and attend as required, any major event scheduled to benefit any or all of the HHS family of hospitals; act as a resource to anyone seeking further information with regard to fundraising initiatives for McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Candidate Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

·  Post-secondary education in a fundraising/business or computer related college diploma or certificate program and 1 year of equivalent fundraising experience working with a development team.

·  Certificate in Development or Event Planning from a recognized institution is an asset

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities:

·  Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal, and problem solving skills

·  Demonstrated superior organization, flexibility, and multi-tasking skills within a team environment

·  High degree of initiative and ability to complete assigned tasks and responsibilities

·  Professionalism and discretion when communicating with donors and volunteers

·  Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a diverse workload within a team environment

·  Strong written and analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail

·  Self-starter, creative and professional

·  Proficient in computer applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

·  Experience working in the Raiser’s Edge database
