Brief Teaching Statement:

At present guiding Research Projects at PG level. I have guided many MA dissertations in the department in various research areas of Sociology. Some of them includes empirical research works on Social Gerontology, Study of Elderly in both rural and urban setting, Women Empowerment, Problems of women call centre employees, Life style of Nurses, Mental Health of the Housewives, Impact internet on the children, Autistic Children, Popular Culture, Sociological study on the Idol-makers, Drum beaters (Dhakis), Queer Culture, Depression and others.

Brief Research Statement:

·  Conducted a Field-work based research work on ‘Globalization and the Care System of the Elders; A Study of the Gujarati Community of Kolkata’(Also presented in UGC Sponsored National Conference in collaboration with Jadavpur University and consequently published in Comsomath Special Issue, (Issn No. 09722971). Date: 15th. and 16th. Feb. 2010. The study has been conducted by interviewing 100 Gujrati elderly residing in Kolkata. Details of the work published in the above mentioned volume.

·  Conducted Field Work based Research Work on ‘Aged Women: A Perspective from Loyada, Fhoteber Village, Paschim Medinipore,’ (Also published in Seminar Proceedings of UGC Sponsored International seminar held on September 2009, Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata.) The study was conducted by following Case Study Method and have been published in April, 2011, UGC Proceedings.

·  Conducted a Field-Work based research work on ‘ ‘Ageing and Loneliness in Family Setting and Old Age Home:A Comparetive Study in Kolkata’(Also published in Samaj Tattva (Issn No. 0975-9980). June, 2011. The study was conducted by following Survey Research Method and thus conducting face-to-face interviews of 100 elderly respondents 75 residing in family-setting and 75 residing in old-age home setting. Findings published in the above mentioned journal.

·  Conducted a Field-work based research work on ‘Depression among Housewives—A Sociological Study In Kolkata’(Also published in Comsomath , Issn 0972-2971) September, 2011. 120 housewives interviewed residing in Kolkata by administering two scales Life Satisfaction Scale and Harvard Depression Scale. Findings have been published. The Survey Research Method was applied.

·  Conducted a Field-Work based Research work on ‘A Sociological Study on the Inmates of Old Age Homes in a Rural Setup: Case Studies from Gopalnagar Village, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal’ (Also published in Indian Journal of Millennium Studies An International Journal, New Delhi, Serials Publications (International Peer Referred Journal) (Issn No. 0973-3981) January-December, 2011. This study was conducted by visiting two old age homes in a Rural Set-up and Case Study Method was applied to conduct the study.

·  Conducted a Field Work based Research Work on ‘Role of Religion in Later Life: A Case Study in Kolkata’. (Also published in Indian Journal of Social Development, New Delhi, Serials Publications.(Peer Referred Journal, Issn No. 0972-3692) 2012,

(Forthcoming) Letter of Acceptance Submitted. This study has been conducted by applying Survey Research Method. The number of respondents interviewed is 100. Findings will be published in the above mentioned Journal.

·  Completed an UGC sponsored Field- Work based Research Project entitled as ‘Position of the Marwari Aged Women within the Family Setting—A Sociological Study’ under the Women’s Studies Centre, Lady Brabourne College. Sanctioned during XI Plan (2009-10to 2011-12) bearing memo F. No. 7-39/2009/(WS) dated July, 2009. The Study has been conducted by following both Survey Research Method and Case Study Method.

·  At present I have been appointed as a Course Coordinator of an UGC Sponsored Project on Religion in the Centre for the Study of Religion and Society (Working under Prof. Ruby Sain, Centre Coordinator and Head Department of Sociology).
