ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON QUESTIONNAIRES

  1. SPEEDING

There were several comments about speeding in different parts of the village;

especially on Broadway and a suggestion for a single lane highway with a pavement at Merriottsford Bridge and at Newchester Cross village entrance.

  1. DEVELOPMENT CONCERNS

Two comments each about what is intended for the Scotts Nursery land and the need to protect and enhance green spaces.

  1. WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS

A wish to see weight restrictions imposed on vehicles in Higher Street.

  1. DRAINS AND FLOODING

Two comments that drains need cleaning. One comment each that the Merriottsford catchment needs better maintenance and that the Moorlands catchment needs regular maintenance.

  1. PARKING

Several comments about visibility problems caused by parked vehicles especially at Townsend Corner, in front of Osbornes Broadway (causing poor visibility from Hitchen), Manor Drive, Sherlands and particularly across from the Coop and Moorlands Road.

  1. PAVEMENTS

Several comments about uneven pavements (Shiremoor Lane, Hitchen, Beadon Lane) and the need to clear the pavement from Merriott to Broadshard. A suggestion that there should be railings around the pavements near the Coop to ensure safe crossing places and there should be safe crossing places on Broadway.

  1. LANES AND FOOTPATHS

Repairs requested to Monkhouse Lane (resurface), Shyners Lane (rebuild wall and clear) Manor Drive to Hitchen path (consolidate and surface) and Church Street to Scotts (dreadful state of path behind post box at that junction).

Comments about the Moorlands footpath up the valley which floods and at times is impassable and about the need to clear vegetation on several footpaths.

  1. WASTE BINS

Two comments for more dog waste bins and one for more waste bins.

  1. MISCELLANEOUS

Stop funding football for outsiders; More affordable housing; For and against stone village entrance signs; Three comments in favour of a village litter pick and garden tidy-up day; Two comments in favour of a youth club; More benches especially in Sherlands and by the new surgery; The summer fete should be village fete not a Church fete; There should be a fund-raising committee for community activities and a community lunch; Rugby posts and cricket nets on the Recreation Ground; Form a walking club and a wine club.
