EASTER SUNDAY

Acts 10:34a, 37-43, Col 3:1-4 or 1 Cor 5:6b-8, Jn 20:1-9 (42) or Mk 16:1-7 (41) or at an afternoon or evening Mass, Lk 24:13-35 (46)

“He went about doing good works and healing all who were in the grip of the devil, and God was with him. We are witnesses to all he did in the land of the Jews and Jerusalem. They killed him finally ‘hanging him on a tree,’ only to have God raise him up on the third day and grant that he be seen, not by all, but only by such witnesses as had been chosen beforehand by God…He commissioned us to preach to the people and to bear witness that he is the One…”

The scripture accounts which have been a blessing to us this week, are summed up well in this great sermon of St. Peter. As he told of the Christ, he spoke of his earthly ministry, doing good works. As I reflect on the scripture which event stands out?

The good works found in care for the marginalized, love of the children, compassion for the hungry crowds summarize his ministry. Is it the compassion, mercy or pity of Christ which moves me?

He went about healing. Was it the blind man, the daughter of Jairus or the son of the widow of Naim, or raising his friend Lazarus which struck me? Who in my life needs the healing of the Lord for which I pray?

The wood of Calvary is aptly described by Peter, but he does not leave us there. Instead the intervention of God, the great resurrection and post Easter appearances produce the Easter faith which we celebrate at this moment.

As we live the joy of Easter, for the next fifty days, may we see that we too are filled with the same faith, and are commissioned to bring that message to others. Our faith as Christians begins with our encounter with the living Christ. May His joy and peace be with you.

PLEASE REMEMBER OUR PARISH IN YOUR WILL

No matter what the size of your estate, if you want to provide for relatives, friends and our Parish you will need a WILL. If you die without one, you lose control of the disposition of your assets. The state law in which you reside will tell your family where your money and property goes.

Naming our Parish as a charitable beneficiary in your Will is simple. Through careful review of this alternative you may save further income and estate taxes. For further information, you and/or your attorney may contact:

ParisHPAY ENABLES PARISHIONERS TO MAKE THEIR REGULAR DONATIONS TO THE PARISH ELECTRONICALLY VIA AUTOMATIC DEDUCTIONS TO CHECKING OR SAVINGS ACCOUNTS, OR VIA CREDIT CARD. SOME OPT TO GIVE MONTHLY WHILE OTHERS ALSO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE PARISH PAY FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS LIKE CHRISTMAS AND EASTER. In whatever manner they have chosen to use ParishPay they have found the system to be very facilitating.

Weencourage you to enroll the ParishPay website under St JosephWestVillage link. The St. Joseph Soup Kitchen has also adopted ParishPay, we encourage you to think of the service the soup provides when giving.

ParishPay provides a steady stream of revenue for the parish, and enables funds to be collected, recorded, and deposited efficiently and effectively. Also, this revenue becomes a steady source of income, not subject to the fluctuations that our regular Sunday collections exhibit, and helps us plan and manage parish finances and activities more efficiently. It will also let the donor make and annual Parish gift and pay this gift over the entire year. It eliminates the need for writing a weekly check or making a cash gift through the offering plate each week. Parishioners may increase or decrease these gifts as their circumstances allow.

We know that many parishioners wish to give generously and regularly. ParishPay provides the vehicle for this faithful generosity

Please call the Rectory and inform us if you know of anyone who is homebound, feeling the effects of old age or is ill and not able to attend mass. We will be happy to visit them on a regular basis and provide them with the sacraments at home. Call 212 741-1274
