TRAINING ANNOUNCEMENT

Activity Name: Traffic Signal Management: A Basic Service Approach (PILOT)

Course code:

Locator Number:

Office Sponsor: Office of Traffic, Safety and Technology and FHWA

Class Date(s):November 5th and 6th, 2013

Description:

/ By not having clearly stated operational objectives, agencies have difficulty describing what “good basic service” should be. This then leads to problems in appropriating staff and funds which then sometimes leads to the adoption and subsequent under-utilization of advanced technological capabilities; capabilities that would never have been adopted had the agency established the concept of good basic service first.
This two-day Pilot course will describe and expand on the Basic Service Concept for use in developing an agency’s Traffic Signal Management Plan. Emphasis will be placed on an agency developing a simply stated goal and then developing objectives, strategies and tactics enabling them to accomplish their stated goal. Each element of the traffic signal management plan will be thoroughly covered, with the objective of creating guidelines for an agency to follow so good basic service can be provided.
