Migraine Study in Adolescent Patients

Seeking volunteers to participate in a study to determine how well the combination medication, sumatriptan and naproxen sodium, treats migraine headache in adolescents.

Eligible participants must

  • Be 12-17 years of age.
  • Able to have a parent or guardian give informed consent.
  • Experience migraine with or without aura at least twice a month.
  • Be able to distinguish between migraine and other headaches.
  • Be able to read, comprehend, and complete subject diaries.
  • Have no history of congenital heart disease, ischemic vascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or impaired renal function

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Study

Seeking volunteers to participate in a study to determine how well the medication citalopram relieves Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms.

Eligible participants must

  • Be older than 18 years and able to give informed consent.
  • Have normal sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, complete blood count, and thyroid studies.
  • Have no current psychiatric diagnosis.
  • Have no major systemic illness, or illness that could explain IBS-like symptoms.

Exercise and Type 2 Diabetes Study

Seeking volunteers to participate in a study to determine how well acutely infusing Vitamin C or three months of chronic exercise training leads to improved blood flow regulation, improved heart and skeletalmuscle tissue function and hence to better exercise capacity in a person with type 2 diabetes.

Eligible participants must

  • Be between the ages of 30 to 55 years.
  • Have uncomplicated Type 2 Diabetes or be healthy without Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Be moderately overweight (BMI 25-37.5).
  • Be sedentary (exercise less than two times a week at a low to moderate level).
  • Have cholesterol levels lower than 205.
  • Have no immediate family history of Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Be non-smokers.
  • Have no history of ischemic heart disease.

Youth Smoking Cessation Study: Therapy without “the Patch”

Seeking volunteers to participate in a study to determine the effectiveness of using cognitive-behavioral motivational enhancement supplemented by nicotine replacement therapy.

Eligible participants must

  • Be 14-21 years of age.
  • Be a regular cigarette smoker, smoking at least five times a day in the month before entry into the study and initiation of smoking at least 6 months before entry.
  • Obtain a score of 35 or greater on the Cigarette Dependence Scale-12.
  • Provide informed consent from parents or guardians.
  • Have no history of cardiovascular disease or medical condition that could be made worse by treatment with nicotine.
  • Have no known allergy to nicotine or any component of the nicotine patches.

Single Versus Combination Medication Treatment for Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Study

Seeking volunteers to participate in a study to determine the effectiveness of a single drug versus a combination of drugs in treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children.

Eligible participants must

  • Be 7-14 years of age.
  • Be clinically diagnosed with ADHD.
  • Reside with a primary caretaker for at least 6 months prior to study entry.
  • Have no history of autism, pervasive developmental disorder, chronic tic disorder, psychosis, or bipolar disorder.
  • Have no need for chronic use of other medications with central nervous system effects.
  • Have no clinically significant cardiac abnormality.

Evaluation of the Immunogenicity and Safety of HPV Vaccine in Young Males

Seeking volunteers to participate in a study to determine the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine in pre-teen and adolescent male subjects aged 10-18 years.

Eligible participants must

  • Be a male between, and including, 10 and 18 years of age at the time of the first vaccination.
  • Have written informed consent from parents or guardians.
  • Be healthy and free of obvious health problems before entering the study.
  • Have no previous vaccination against HPV or Hepatitis B.
