Acd PARENT support worker

The Association for Children with a Disability (ACD) is seeking a Support Worker to join our dedicated team delivering high quality telephone, email and face to face support and advocacy to children with a disability and their families across Victoria.

The strength of the Association comes from the passion and energy of parents of children with a disability. Other family members, including grandparents and siblings, are also major contributors to our family perspective on disability. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of families of children with a disability, providing individualised information, support and advocacy, empowering families by building skills and strategies to achieve better outcomes for their child with a disability.

Reporting to the ACD Support Manager, you will work closely with your colleagues in both the Parent Support and Community Educate teams. You will provide professional, accurateand timely information and support to families, present in introductory talks to groups of parents as well as contribute to systemic change for all families of children with disabilities.

The role requires an excellent understanding of issues for families of children with a disability, and a strong knowledge of the disability and service system for families, including the NDIS.

ACD is Victoria’s leading member-based, not-for-profit organisation providing information, support and advocacy for families of children with a disability living in Victoria.

We provide:

  • free telephone support services to families about any disability issue
  • building workshops and seminars for parents, carers, students and professionals
  • tailored information and resources for families across a broad range of areas
  • systemic advocacy to advance the rights of children with a disability and their families

Located in Surrey Hills and close to public transport this role is for 3 days a week on a 12 month contract with potential for ongoing.
