Welcome to Our Church

We are a historic church, part of a historic denomination, and we celebrate this history while exploring ways to bring passion and freshness to our worship and congregational life. Join us as we seek to discover Fresh Traditional ways to proclaim, gather, and nurture, all toward continuing Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry of building God’s Kingdom.

Please join us for coffee and fellowship in the narthex at the back of the church.

Visitor’s Information brochures are in the stands at the entrances
to assist you in finding your way around our campus.

*HYMN 411Arise, Your Light Is Come!Festal Song

Arise, your light is come!

The Spirit's call obey;

Show forth the glory of your God,

Which shines on you today.

Arise, your light is come!

Fling wide the prison door;

Proclaim the captives' liberty,

Good tidings to the poor.

Arise, your light is come!

All you in sorrow born,

Build up the broken-hearted ones

And comfort those who mourn.Continued…

Arise, your light is come!

The mountains burst in song!

Rise up like eagles on the wing;

God's power will make us strong.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison) The Reverend Dr. Cynthia J. Alloway
Associate Pastor

O Lord our God, who sets the captive free, we confess that in our failure to see your way we have often misdirected our zeal, and under the power of sin, we have often misplaced our trust. Forgive us, O God, and raise us from death, darkness, and despair, that we may glorify you for the great favor you have shown us in Jesus Christ our Lord.

SILENT PRAYER

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

*RESPONSE TO FORGIVENESS (Hymn 304, Stanza 2)

Jesus loves me! This I know, as He loved so long ago,

Taking children on His knee, saying, “Let them come to Me.”

Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (Unison) Steven Gaden

God of mercy, you promised never to break your covenant with us. Amid all the changing words of our generation, speak your eternal Word that does not change. Then may we respond to your gracious promises with faithful and obedient lives; through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

ANTHEMThy Holy WingsMichael Burkhardt

The Summer Choir

Michael Witsberger, oboe; Scott Gothe, clarinet; Amy Visscher, cello

Thy holy wings, dear Savior, spread gently over me, and through the long night watches I’ll rest secure in Thee. Whatever may betide me, be Thou my hiding place, and let me live and labor each day, Lord, by Thy grace. Thy pardon, Savior, grant me, and cleanse me in Thy blood; give me a willing spirit, a heart both clean and good. Oh, take into Thy keeping Thy children, great and small, and while we sweetly slumber, enfold us one and all.

SECOND SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 7:11-17(New Testament, page 61)

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God!

*HYMN 374Lord, Make Us Servants of Your Peace Dickinson College

Lord, make us servants of your peace:
Where there is hate, may we so love;
Where there is hurt, may we forgive;

Where there is strife, may we make one.

Where all is doubt, may we sow faith;
Where all is gloom, may we sow hope;
Where all is night, may we sow light;
Where all is tears, may we sow joy.

Jesus, our Lord, may we not seek
To be consoled, but to console,
Nor look to understanding hearts,
But look for hearts to understand.

May we not look for love’s return,
But seek to love unselfishly,
For in our giving we receive,
And in forgiving are forgiven.

Dying, we live, and are reborn
Through death’s dark night to endless day:
Lord, make us servants of Your peace
To wake at last in heaven’s light.

OFFERTORYWe are Singing, for the Lord is Our LightHal Hopson

The Summer Choir

We are singing, for the Lord is our light. The Lord is the strength of our lives; of whom shall we be afraid? Though foes may be near to destroy; the Lord will be our light. One thing have we asked of the Lord, yes, this is the thing we seek: to swell in the house of the Lord; to live with God forever. When burdens are heavy to bear, our shelter is God alone. Our feet are lifted high; yes, high upon a rock. We walk in the strength of the Lord, God’s love is ever sure. We shout that the world may hear, we sing a joyful song.

* DOXOLOGY (Hymn 591)Old Hundredth

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Christ, all people here below;
Praise Holy Spirit evermore;
Praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*HYMN 391Take My LifeHendon

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee.
Filled with messages from Thee.

Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.
Every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.
It shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.
Ever, only, all for Thee.
