Accredited Packaging Professional– A Guide to Application

This guide is provided to support those seeking to achieve the Accredited Packaging Professional Award during the “grandparenting” phase which runs until the end of October 2013 and is open only to those who are existing members of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and affiliated to The Packaging Society.

By virtue of education, training, personal qualities and experience, Packaging Professionalsshould be competent throughout their working life. The Accredited Packaging Professional Award is recognition of this. To become an Accredited Packaging Professional you need to demonstrate that you meet a series of competences and these are detailed below. Once you have been accredited you will be expected to maintain your competence through a programme of Continuous Professional Development.

To apply for the Accredited Packaging Professional Award during the grandparenting phase, you will need to complete and return the following to the Membership Department;

  1. Application Form – which is attached at the end of this guide
  2. Statement of Competence, also attached
  3. Up to date CV
  4. Copies of relevant higher education/degree level certificates

Copies of the application form and statement of competence can be obtained from the Membership Department by .

Your fully completed application will be checked for completeness and will then be submitted for assessment by two trained scrutineers. These scrutineers will already be Accredited Packaging Professionals and when reviewing your Statement of Competence will consider how you meet the requirements of the statement and the elements associated with each one. The examples that are given show ways in which you can show that you have achieved the competence and its associated elements.
