FY 2011 WALTER FRESE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS

The Association of Government Accountants (AGA) - Boston Chapter is pleased to offer one (1)

Walter Frese Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 to a high school, undergraduate, or graduate student

enrolled in a financial management related program.

Background: The late Walter Frese was one of the original 59 Charter Members and one of the original nine Directors to serve on the National Board of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA). Mr. Frese was the second National President of the organization, serving from 1951 to 1952. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) paid special recognition to Walter in its 100th Anniversary issue of the Journal of Accountancy. Mr. Frese’s career included the United States Department of the Treasury, the United States General Accounting Office, and the Harvard School of Business.

Eligibility: Applicants must have been accepted into or must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate/graduate student in a program relating to financial management. This will include (but not necessarily be limited to) majors in accounting, business administration, finance, information technology, and economics. In addition, graduate student applicants are considered eligible as long as the applicant is currently working in a government accounting/auditing/finance position. Note: Applicants must be a New England area resident or be enrolled in a New England area college.

Award Criteria:Recipients will be selected based on scholastic achievement, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, reference letter, writing ability, and an expressed interest in the field of government accounting, auditing or financial management.

The Association of Government Accountants (AGA) is dedicated to improving performance and accountability of federal, state and local governments for the benefit of the American people. Quality reporting is a critical part of the performance management effort. It improves communication with internal and external stakeholders, leads to better decision making and, ultimately, improves performance.Citizen Centric Reporting is a new initiative that encourages governments to produce and publish an annual report that is no more than four pages long.

With reference to the above statement, please respond and comment on the following questions: How would you encourage your local government (i.e. city, town, etc.) to implement a Citizen Centric Reporting initiative?
