(a) When software is designed to run on a system that has a keyboard, product functions shall be executable from a keyboard where the function itself or the result of performing a function can be discerned textually. / Supported with exceptions:
Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system supportWindows® accessibility features including StickyKeys, FilterKeys, MouseKeys, SerialKeys, and ToggleKeys.
Keyboard access is provided in a number of areas throughout the Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system. Keyboard shortcuts, shortcut keys, and menu commands are available in the Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system.
Help functionality includes an accessible reference guide for keyboard accessibility.
The Mini Toolbar is not keyboard accessible by design since it is specifically designed to increase the efficiency of formatting for mouse users only. However, all of the functionality in the Mini Toolbar is available in the Ribbon and accessible through the keyboard. / In the Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system the following exceptions occur:
Access Web Datasheet has accessibility limitations tabbingto the grid header or filter dropdown and task pane expand/collapse button.
Workarounds for these limitations using the Access Web Datasheet are as follows:
- The user can get to the filter dropdown by hitting Ctrl+Space to select the column then Alt+Shift+Down to open the dropdown.
- The user can hit the F8 key to show the task Pane and Shift+F8 hides it.
Information Graphics (IGX) is built on the Shared Graphics Services (SGS) platform and thus inherits many of the same accessibility issues found using SGS (see below and other sections of this document where SGS is mentioned).
Shared Graphics Services (SGS) has accessibility limitations includingloss of focus switching from Selection Pane to Slide Editor andmultiple selecting SGS objects in Microsoft® Office PowerPoint® 2007 and Microsoft® Office Excel® 2007.
Workarounds for these limitations using Shared Graphics Services (SGS) are as follows:
- Use the keyboard combination Shift+ F6 to switch from Selection Pane to Slide Editor.
- Use the Selection Pane and/or Select Multiple objects dialog to select the different SGS object types independently.
Workarounds for this limitation in VBAare to either close the properties window via Alt+F4 or invoke the properties command via the context menu or Ribbon UI.
The Office Fluent user interface has accessibility limitationsselecting some objects such as floating pictures, SmartArts, or Charts and lack of access to tooltips when navigating application toolbars, Shapes window, task panes, or the Drawing window.
(b) Applications shall not disrupt or disable activated features of other products that are identified as accessibility features, where those features are developed and documented according to industry standards. Applications also shall not disrupt or disable activated features of any operating system that are identified as accessibility features where the application programming interface for those accessibility features has been documented by the manufacturer of the operating system and is available to the product developer. / Supported with exceptions: / In the Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system the following exceptions occur:
Access Web Datasheet has accessibility limitationsusing keyboard navigation shortcuts.
Shared Graphics Services (SGS)has accessibility limitations displaying shapes and selected items in Selection Pane in High contrast mode.
Exceptions in Setup for the 2007 MicrosoftOffice systemoccur where the Setup dialogs do not respect Large Fonts setting except for the dialog title bar and the Microsoft Software License Agreement.
A workaround for this limitation in Setupis to use the magnifier application in the operating system to magnify dialog text.
(c) A well-defined on-screen indication of the current focus shall be provided that moves among interactive interface elements as the input focus changes. The focus shall be programmatically exposed so that Assistive Technology can track focus and focus changes. / Supported with exceptions: / Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system support Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA) and the system caret in all instances with some exceptions as follows:
Office Language Packs for the 2007 MicrosoftOffice systemhas accessibility limitationswhich include focus issues in the AutoCorrect dialog and Date Picker.
Exceptions in VBA include an issue with losing visible focus on the Properties window of a Forms3 Control such as the Font picker.
(d) Sufficient information about a user interface element including the identity, operation and state of the element shall be available to Assistive Technology. When an image represents a program element, the information conveyed by the image must also be available in text. / Supported with exceptions:
Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system support Microsoft Active Accessibility(MSAA) programming interfaces as well as the Microsoft® Office Object Modelwhich is available to programmatically access the user interface. / In the Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system the following exceptions occur:
Access Web Datasheet has accessibility limitationsinvolving scroll up/down buttons in task panesand the Conflict dialog.
In IDN Risk Mitigation, navigation of the Risk Mitigation Dialog via MSAA is inconsistent.
Shared Graphics Services (SGS)has accessibility limitations involving instances where sufficient identity, operations, and state information of objects such as shapes, pictures, lines, text boxes, movies, sound, and motion paths as well asOffice Picture Manager UI elements are not available.
The 2007 MicrosoftOffice system has accessibility limitations involving instancesin which a few controls have limited MSAA support such as File New list view columns and Clip Organizer checkboxes.
The Language Settings dialog has accessibility limitations involvingsome UI elements which have incomplete MSAA support.
Microsoft Script Editor (MSE)has interoperability issues with the Speech Recognition software provided in the Windows Vista operating system.
(e) When bitmap images are used to identify controls, status indicators, or other programmatic elements, the meaning assigned to those images shall be consistent throughout an application's performance. / Supported:
(f) Textual information shall be provided through operating system functions for displaying text. The minimum information that shall be made available is text content, text input caret location, and text attributes. / Supported:
(g) Applications shall not override user selected contrast and color selections and other individual display attributes. / Supported with exceptions: / In the Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system the following exceptions occur:
Access Web Datasheet has accessibility limitationsdisplaying null check boxes and empty checkboxes as well as select feedback under High Contrast mode.
In IDN Risk Mitigation, text in the Risk Mitigation dialog does not support Large Font and in some high-contrast modes, hyperlinks displayed in the risk mitigation dialog are difficult to read.
File Format Converter Setup in the 2007 Microsoft® Office system has accessibility limitations involving Dialog body text not respecting Large Font settings.
Accessibility limitations of the Shared Features in the 2007 Microsoft Office system include displaying some UI elements including template thumbnails and hyperlinks in File New, paging controls and the vertical scrollbar in the Help Client Viewer, and the Clip Organizer print button when using High contrast mode.
Additionally, In Large fonts and high DPI modes, some Help content may be truncated and the File New dialog may not scale correctly.
VBA has an accessibility limitationdisplaying keywords In High contrast mode.
A workaround for this limitation in VBAis to manually set the keywords text foreground color to a more visible color against the background using the Editor Format tab of the Options dialog.
The Office Fluent user interface has accessibility limitationsdisplaying a few task panes and menus in Large/Extra-large font modes.
A workaround for this limitation is to run in normal mode using the operating system assistive aid- Magnifier.
(h) When animation is displayed, the information shall be displayable in at least one non-animated presentation mode at the option of the user. / Supported with exceptions:
The Office Fluent user interface utilizesanimation in its display of Ribbon UI, menus, galleries, context menus, and the mini-toolbar. The user can choose to turn this off in the OfficeCenter options.
Additionally, Live Preview employs functionality similar to animation to display formatting from some galleries. There is also an option to turn off Live Preview in the OfficeCenter. / In Setup, there is currently no alternative method to indicate the percentage of completeness of Installation progress other than the visual representation of the progress bar.
However, the user can determine whether installation completed successfully or an error occurred after installation completes because the progress bar animation is followed by a status dialog which containsaccessible text.
(i) Color coding shall not be used as the only means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. / Supported:
(j) When a product permits a user to adjust color and contrast settings, a variety of color selections capable of producing a range of contrast levels shall be provided. / Supported:
(k) Software shall not use flashing or blinking text, objects, or other elements having a flash or blink frequency greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. / Supported:
(l) When electronic forms are used, the form shall allow people using Assistive Technology to access the information, field elements, and functionality required for completion and submission of the form, including all directions and cues. / Supported with exceptions: / Workflow InfoPath forms have accessibility limitations in a few instances.
