Accelerated Math 7

Mrs. Goffredo

This class will focus on the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics which address Standards for Mathematical Practice and Content. In order to assure that students are learning the critical information they need to succeed at higher levels, the standards stress procedural and conceptual understanding. The following list is the concept categories we will be covering throughout the school year:

·  Irrational Numbers

·  Equations and Inequalities

·  Radical and Integer Exponents

·  Geometric Figures

·  Pythagorean Theorem

·  Area and Circles

·  Ratios and Percents

·  Surface Area and Volume

·  Proportional Relationships/Slope

·  Transformations

·  Functions

·  Statistics and Probability

Activities to Support Student Learning

●  Active Class Practice

Students are expected to be actively engaged in mathematics during class time. Student effort during discussions, practice sessions, and solving of mathematical tasks is critical for success.

●  Homework

The purpose of homework is to solidify the learning of a skill, concept, or procedure to ensure retention. Homework must be completed on a daily basis. Homework is not included in the calculation of a student’s academic grade but will help determine a student’s work habits grade (O, S, N, U).

●  Additional Help

It is important for students to be proactive in their learning. If the need arises, students are encouraged to get additional help during PAWs (Tues/Thurs after lunch), after school, and/or by pursuing help at home.

Assessments & Grading

The academic grade will be based on the average of a student’s scores on graded Quick Checks. Goal Problems will be used as formative assessment and will not be part of the academic grade. Students will have the opportunity to retest (Defenses) concept categories at designated times.
