Role Summary

“Making decisions based on Insight and Knowledge” is one of Everton Football Club’s four strategic objectives and is key to delivering our long-term ambitions. To support this, the Club’s academy requires “best-in-class” data management – from governance to visualisation - that can inform operational and strategic decision making across the department.
The person assuming this role will hone and deliver the data strategy which will transform access to information across the academy. From implementing best practice in data storage and governance through to creating visualisations, the person will be responsible for a well-managed approach to information across the breadth of the academy’s activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboration: Develop relationships across the Academy to understand user requirements.
  • Control environment: Lead the implementation of a best practice environment within the academy across data governance, data standards and documentation, master data management, and data integration. Make assessments of the current controls in place and develop improvements to ensure the information is accurate and reliable.
  • Extract, transform, load: Build new and/or modify existing data movement solutions to meet business requirements and ETL processes
  • Visualisation: Communicate data findings, including by developing and maintaining world class reporting & dashboards to inform and empower stakeholders across the academy.
  • Resolution: Work collaboratively to lead the resolution of any data issues concerning structure, governance, ETL and visualisation.
  • Support: Be responsible for consistently providing ad-hoc support and training of the academy’s user community
  • Reporting: Support Academy management in developing automated reporting solutions that can be used on an ongoing basis to report performance to the Senior Executive Team.
  • Policies: Develop written policies that document the systems and control environment and defines responsibilities for managing the quality of our data (e.g. input best practice).
  • Relationship with IT: lead the interaction between the Academy and the IT department regarding the infrastructure, systems and software required to deliver the information strategy within the Academy.
  • Development: Support the development and implementation of new tools and products to be used in long-term strategy improvement
  • Statistics: apply statistical methods in order to generate valuable player development insights

  • Strong working knowledge of Alteryx
  • Excellent data visualisation skills using Tableau.

  • Strong background in applying statistics and metrics in a business or sports setting.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential / Desirable
  • Support development and implementation of business intelligence and analytics strategies and roadmaps.
  • Significant experience of Alteryx and Tableau to build datasets & dashboards in a professional environment
  • Proven experience of working within a fast-moving agile business with changeable and competing priorities.
  • Good understanding of Enterprise Information Management reference models including Data Governance and Security.
