ACADEMIC PROGRAM DIRECTOR- MFT

MISSION STATEMENT: The Mission of the Adler Graduate School is to provide Adlerian and non-Adlerian instruction to train professional counselors and therapists to be practitioners focused on achieving a balance between self and social interest, and to facilitate healthier life styles among the people, organizations and communities they serve. Promoting social interest in others through cooperation and collaboration allows individuals to add value to their lives in work, community, relationships and individual health.

JOB TITLE: Program Director- MFT

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for leadership and direction ofthe Marriage and Family Therapy program.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Vice President for Academic Affairs.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Program faculty and staff

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide everydayleadership necessary for successful implementation of foundational and advanced MFT curriculum.
  2. Provide leadership for general curriculum courses which have been assigned to the program director.
  3. Facilitate thereview, and acceptance process for persons seeking admission to the respective program.
  4. Academic and Professional Advising:
  5. Provide academic and professional advising to students, including:
  6. Responding to student requests for information
  7. Conduct or assist with difficult personal, professional, or career related conversations with students
  8. Provide support to other faculty advisors
  9. Recruit, train, and support new faculty.
  10. Conduct annual faculty reviews including course evaluation analysis and classroom/courseroom observations.
  11. Conduct regular departmental faculty meetings (at least quarterly).
  12. Provide department leadership in the development and monitoring of program goals and strategic plans including issues of diversity, customer service, and Adlerian Psychology.
  13. Provide leadership in the development and monitoring of program specific academic outcomes assessment.
  14. Serve as liaison to oversight bodies which are relevant to the specific program (e.g., MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy).
  15. Assist with practicum/internship, site visits, and field experience troubleshooting.
  16. Provide program-specific faculty development and assist with school-wide faculty development events.
  17. Monitor program admissions, enrollment, and budget.
  18. Collaborate with online education staff to develop distance education course offerings.
  19. Regular attendance in committee forums for which the Program Director has been assigned including at least one standing committee (after six months of employment).
  20. Assist in problem-solving with program-specific and AGS- general challenges.
  21. Provide modeling and support for striving to the highest standards of customer service.
  22. Support the ongoing maturation of the program.
  23. Participate in regular supervisory meetings with VPAA.
  24. Other tasks as assigned.

The job holder must demonstrate competencies applicable to the current job position.

EDUCATION:

Master’s Degree (doctorate preferred).

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  2. Current Licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy.
  3. Commitment to current best practices and unyielding ethical practice.
  4. Commitment to increasing diversity within the organization and to working with an increasingly diverse academic community and community at-large.
  5. Commitment to community engagement and communityservice.
  6. Valid Minnesota Driver’s license and vehicle.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in the respective field of study.
  2. Higher education teaching experience, preferably at the graduate level.

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Solid understanding of best practices in the respective field.
  2. Knowledge of and commitment to the ethics which guidethe practice of professionals in the field.
  3. Understanding of issues and trends characterizing the respective field.
  4. Knowledge of Adlerian Psychology or willingness to develop above-average understanding.

SKILLS:

  1. Superior written and oral communication skills, including significant communicating on the phone, speaking with the public, and producing written materials.
  2. Skills in or willingness to learn about program evaluation and assessment.
  3. Skilled in team facilitation activities.
  4. Technological proficiency.

ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Prolonged periods of sitting, often while working on a keyboard, light lifting, and some filing.

Work may require flexibility in scheduling hours of work and, in general, a professional’s orientation to task completion.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work setting is an educational environment and involves frequent contact with students, alumni, faculty, staff and the public. Work may be stressful at times.
