Mathematics Career Mini-Poster

Part 1: Interview an adult (a parent or guardian may be the easiest person) who uses mathematics in his or her job. Ask the person to give you an example of a math problem used in his or her work. You do not have to understand the problem yourself just record the information accurately on the back of this paper. Part 1 is your homework for tonight.

Part 2: On a clean sheet of printer paper (8.5 by 11 inches), create your Career Poster. Neatly include the following items:

1. A title identifying the career/job of the person you interviewed. (Example: “Engineer” or “Doctor”)

  1. The mathematics problem given to you.
  1. A short paragraph giving a general explanation of how math is used in the identified career.
  1. A picture to illustrate the job. It can be a photograph of the person you interviewed, a magazine cut out, a drawing, or any other picture that fits your career.
  1. In the lower left hand corner of the poster, neatly write your name and period.

Mini-Poster Due Date: Thursday/Friday September 8th/9th

Before you turn in your Career Poster, check to see that:

-You followed the directions of the assignment.

-Your work is neat. Please print your title. Your paragraph should be typed or printed neatly in ink. Use color to enhance your poster.
