Almost every time a person has come from will-works religion to attend services with us their questions are concerning what we preach on the believer’s walk. The fact that they almost never ask what we preach concerning Christ and him crucified shows the heart of will-works religion.

ABSOLUTE ASSURANCE

The believer in the Lord Jesus knows with absolute assurance that for him to have any hope of eternal life, the Father had to have chosen him in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).

He’s absolutely sure that he is a sinner and that for his guilt to have truly been put away, his sin had to have been dealt with in Christ his Substitute (2 Cor. 5:21) and now, shall never be charged to him (Rom. 8:1).

He’s absolutely sure that the perfect life that Christ lived as his Representative and Surety is now and shall forever be his only righteousness before God (Romans 4:6-7).

And he’s absolutely sure, having come to Christ by faith, he shall forever be with the Lord (John 17:24). Pastor Marvin Stalnaker, Katy Baptist Church, Fairmont, WV

HOPE THOU IN GOD!

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted inme? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of hiscountenance. (Psalm 42:5)”!

Have you often asked your soul these same questions, believer? Are you often cast down, restless and troubled by the world, indwellingsin, and the trials of this life? Here is the answer – “Hope thou in God.”There is no hope found in ourselves or in this cursed world. Confidencecan only be place securely in God who changes not. Hope in God’sword, in His faithful and sure promises in Christ. Trust Him for His graceand wait on the Lord to deliver you. Recall to mind the mercies of theLord, for they are new every morning. As poor sinners, every day weneed new mercies, and every day the Lord faithfully supplies them!(Lam. 3:21-26) “This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is ofthe LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because hiscompassions fail not. They are new every morning: greatis thyfaithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will Ihope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soulthat seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietlywait for the salvation of the LORD.”!David understood, by sweet experience, that the Lord would help bythe light of His countenance. David learned to wait on the Lord, to hopein His word, because the Lord is always faithful to His promises. Hesaid confidently to his soul, “Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Himfor the help of His countenance.” God teach each of us to hope withconfident expectation in Him, especially when our souls are troubledand cast down because of sin. “This is a faithful saying, and worthy ofall acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; ofwhom I am chief. (1 Tim. 1:15)”!– Eric Richards, pastor of San Diego Grace Fellowship, San Diego, CA

CHRIST IS ALL!

What do I believe concerning the gospel? Christ is All! What do I believe the scriptures teach? Christ is All! What do I believe concerning prophecy? Christ is All! What do I believe concerning particular redemption and righteousness? Christ is All! What do I believe concerning the new birth, the new man and sanctification? Christ is All! What do I believe concerning the believer’s motive, constraint and walk? Christ is All! What do I believe concerning the believer’s preservation and perseverance in faith? Christ is All! What do I believe concerning resurrection? Christ is All! What do I believe concerning heavenly glory? Christ is All! From this point forward, let me save valuable time for all who have questions for me. The answer is “Christ is All!” (Col 3: 11)

------

Well-meaning, faithful men argue against imparted righteousness. If you have spiritual life created within you by God, as all believers do, then righteousness is imparted to you. One, God only creates that which is holy and righteous. (Eph 4: 24; Col 3: 10; 2 Cor 3: 18) Two, there is no spiritual life except holiness and righteousness. Before Adam broke the law, he was righteous therefore he was alive spiritually. When he sinned, death entered because he ceased being righteous. (Rom 5: 12) So God used Paul to settle the matter, believer, “If Christ be in you the body is dead because of sin but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” (Rom 8: 10)

Practical Theology

How blessed it would be for us, and for all who cross ourpaths, if we could put our theology into deeds and not mere words. We profess to believe in God's immutable sovereignty and thenconstantly mourn over our lot in life. We claim to believe inGod's purpose and providence, but fill every ear that will listenwith our discontent and our sad state of affairs. Usually those whodo the most complaining have, in reality, the least to complainabout; while those who have serious handicaps, heavy burdens, and deep sorrows find a reason to praise the Lord and rejoice inHis blessings. I need not remind you of God's anger with Israelbecause of their murmuring, or to remind you of the words of ourLord, “Take no anxious thought for what you shall eat, drink, or wear,” or to remind you of the words of Paul, “Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have.” No! I need not remind you of these words; foryou have read them, taught them, and perhaps preached them. Then our problem is not ignorance of the Word and Will of God(perhaps it would be better if this were our problem); our problemis identified in Hebrews 4:2, “The word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” It is aheart problem, for out of the heart the mouth speaks. Andtruthfully, our complaints are not with men, who are but secondcauses, but with God WHOM WE SAY is the first Cause and Lord of our lives. I can understand the free-willer (whose God is but apuppet of man's permission) complaining, murmuring, and findingfault with all about him. But the most inconsistent person living isthe professed Christian who says he believes, “The Most High rules in the kingdom of men and giveth it to whomsoever He will”or,“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”, and then fills the air about with a constantstream of complaints and reasons why he should be somewhereelse or doing something else, or blessed in a more abundantmeasure. A certain cure for anxious care is TRUST. “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him!” –Pastor Henry Mahan
