FOBS AGM Thursday April 23rd 2015

Absentee apologies from : Sophia Howard, Emmy Applegate, Justine Ruggles and Grace Hulsum

Meeting attended by: Tina Impett, Lindsey Booth, Truusje Barkham, Rob Giles, Justine Turner, Muchaela Frost, Michelle Barnett, Kate Mullin, Candice Cook, Helen Forth and Katy Osborne

Lindsey Booth read out the AGM summary of the school year 2013-2014 and announced that herself and Tina Impett were stepping down and Truusje Barkham would be taking over as Chairperson of FOBS going forward . Muchaela Frost agreed to take over updating the website and Kate Mullin would take over as FOBS secretary. The remaining committee members would be confirmed over the next few weeks. Justine Turner announced that after many years she wishes to come off the committee but is happy to continue organising both the photo day and the London coach trip.

Spending money raised
Katy Osborne confirmed that we have given MD Jovis Ltd the go ahead to install a bike and scooter shelter outside the back doors of the swimming pool nearest the playground. The cost of this will be approximately £3,800.

There was also talk of future ambitious targets such as to astro turf the whole playing field. Although expensive, we could do it in stages. Attendees agreed it would make sense as the field could then be used all year round and potentially hired out to people outside the school to recoup some of the money spent. Local and national lottery grants are available for such projects so it would be worth looking into. Obviously we’ll need to speak to the next head before embarking on such a project . Candice Cook and husband run a business installing astro turf for schools so could carry out the work at a favourable price.

Up and coming events

FOBS quiz night - 6th June. Organised by Katy Osborne with the help of Rosalind Pache and Caroline Williams. Truusje agreed to advertise this at the next Boxford Community council meeting.

Summer Fete - provisional date set as 11th July. Organised by Truusje Barkham with a team of helpers yet to be confirmed.

Future fundraising ideas

Ideas were put forward for future fund raising such as the children making coasters for their dad’s for father’s day. Truusje has also been researching “Stamptastic” a company that makes personalised child’s name stamps which can be used on numerous items quickly and easily and will not rub off. The school gets a cut of any sales made . All attendees agreed this was a great idea and definitely worth promoting. Truusje also suggested some kind of village loyalty card to encourage parents to shop locally . Hopefully we can agree with participating shops they will donate a percentage of sales back to the School. Candice Cook suggested school discos which in principle was a good idea but several agreed it has to be carefully broken down into smaller age groups , an entertainer would have to be hired, parents would be charged a small fee (£1 or £2) so we don’t lose money and a number of parents asked to help.

Any other business

Truusje spoke about free software/app she has found called “mycommittee.com” which could help us going forward with communication, administration and sharing information. Truusje agreed to set it up and send committee members and interested parties an email to invite them to join the group as all agreed this is worth trying.

Next meeting date Thurs 18th June with an interim meeting to discuss the Summer Fete on Thurs 7th May.
