The committee discussed the details of the Pinewood Derby and determined the following:

  • -A track practice set up will be held at John Moore’s house on Saturday, 9 November, at 14:30. Volunteers are needed. These same volunteers will then set up the track on race day, 9:00.
  • -The Bears will run the coffee stand and the BBQ. John and Joss Saini will bring their coffee machines to use on the day.
  • -The Tigers will run the cake sale and remind the pack to bring labeled baked goods.
  • -The Tigers themselves will bring fruits to serve with lunch, free of charge.
  • -Wolves will run the used toy sale. A reminder to make donations (and purchases) will be emailed to the pack and announced at the Pack meeting Friday evening.
  • -Webelos II will be in charge of the clean up.
  • -Michael will remind Den 8 that they will hold an opening flag ceremony at 13:00 sharp.
  • -Tigers will be the last rank scheduled to register and the first rank to race.
  • -Derby patches were discussed. Jack will speak with Peter Meyers about ribbons, trophies and patches.
  • It was agreed to invite the Webelos II scouts to bring in their favorite derby car to show the Pack. This will be displayed on a Hall of Fame table set up by the decorating committee (Ellen and Theresa)
  • -We still need a doodle set up with Webelos I parent-volunteers signing up to run registration, weigh-in, inspection, pit-stop/repairs table and judging. Jack and Theresa will work on this in the next few days.

The committee discussed the Kandersteg weekend preparation and determined the following:

  • -Since Kandersteg is now charging a cancellation fee, we must also.
  • -Reservations must be made by Christmas. Cub families not signed up by the December Pack meeting cannot attend.
  • The committee urges all to attend.
  • Activities: Curling, Skating, Sledging, Guided snowshoeing (reservations necessary, cancellation fee involved) and a ski race on Saturday. A sign-up email is forthcoming.
  • -The room allocation will be as it was in the past with cubs, sibling-boys and dads together and moms with girls and toddler siblings together.
  • The committee briefly discussed the difficulty of putting this together and decided that individual reservations made from outside the kanderstegcommittee cannot be honored. It was agreed that this would keep things manageable.
  • -Special requests and room requests will be taken into consideration but absolutely not guaranteed. There may be additional costs for families with these requests.
  • -Dens are asked to prepare a campfire song.
  • -Den 2 will perform an outdoor flag ceremony at the campfire.
  • -The specific agenda will be prepared and distributed at a later date.
  • Shona will coordinate a Webelos II, Kandersteg patch design contest to mark the event.

The committee discussed the November Pack Meeting and determined the following:

  • -If a new projector is not purchased by Friday, John will borrow one from his office to use during the guest speaker’s presentation.
  • -Theresa will send out an email reminder to the Pack, asking them to polish their belt buckles in preparation for the guest speaker.
  • -Theresa and Michael will prepare an agenda and pinewood derby warm up activity.
  • -Den 1 will exhibit a recent activity of theirs and Den 7 will perform the flag ceremony.
  • -Announcements will be made, among them the need for a Pack Trainer and a Pack Outings Chair.

The committee discussed the January Hockey Event and determined the following:

  • -Christer has agreed to organize our attendance at an outdoor, professional hockey game in Geneva on11 January, weather permitting (12 January back up date).
  • -In addition to the hockey game, there will be other activities/events at the site.
  • -Everyone is invited to attend this event: cubs, parents, siblings, visiting relatives, etc.
  • -A detailed, email invitation will go out to the Pack asking them to commit to the event and buy their tickets at the December Pack meeting.
  • -Ticket cost will be 10Chfs per person (non-refundable).
  • -Estimated 19:45 start time.
  • -The committee urges all to attend.

Update on Dues: not discussed.

Other Business

  • -With the growing need of a digital projector, we have agreed to purchase one for the pack, provided Kira can show that we have the budget for one. It is likely that we do.
  • The committee has yet to secure a venue for the Blue and Gold dinner in March. Suggestions are welcome.
  • -In anticipation of Paul Meyers’ transition to Boy Scouts in June, an easy, early transition of Peter Meyers’ position as Quartermaster was briefly discussed. John will approach Peter and another cub parent about a handover effective 1 January 2014. This will leave room for problem solving and question answering before Peter’s resignation in June.
  • Looking ahead: The December Pack meeting will include a guest speaker, the bobcat awards, the pinewood derby awards, a Webelos II exhibit and Den 14’s flag ceremony. The January Pack meeting will include a Webelosbadge award ceremony, Den 1’s flag ceremony and the den exhibit is open to any den who requests it. Scott Walker has agreed to present the topic “From Cocoa to Chocolate” at the May Pack meeting.
