Course Information

Students in Algebra I are expected to achieve the objectives of the SOL's of Virginia. Students will make connections to other subject areas through practical applications. Students will be required to use algebra as a tool for representing and solving a variety of algebraic expressions, equations,inequalities, functions, as well as organize and manipulate data. Students will use calculators and computers to assist in problem solving.

Systems of Equations and Inequalities (SOL A.2,A.3,A.6,A.9)

Exponents (SOL A.10)

Polynomials (SOL A.11,A.12,A.14)

Square Roots (SOL A.13)

Student Responsibility

1.Students are expected to follow the rules, regulations, and attendance policy as stated in the student handbook.

2.During class, each student is encouraged to be an active participant.

3.All class and homework assignments are to be completed within the given time frame specified.

4.Students are expected to cooperate with their peers while attempting to complete tasks.

Grading

Student work is graded using a weighted point system. Grades are maintained by computer. At the end of the 9 week grading period, the following scale is used to determine your child’s overall grade.

100%-93%=A 92%-85%=B 84%-77%=C 76%-70%=D

Expectations

1. Respect yourself and others.

2. Attend School.

3. Arrive on time to class and have assignments and materials.

4.Be responsible for your own learning and behavior.

Classroom Procedure

At the sound of the tardy bell, students are to be seated with their homework out working on the focus activity.

The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell.

Bonus work is ALWAYS available. It is up to the student to take advantage of this opportunity.

The student is responsible for obtaining make-up work.
