  1. Call to Order

President Jonna Gibson called the meeting to order at 6:20 p.m. for the purpose of announcing the election results and award presentations.

Buddy Jackson, Nominations and Elections Chair, announced the following candidates as officers for the 2007-2008 year:

Ann Campbell – Treasurer-elect

Phillip Nelson – Treasurer

Ann Little – Secretary

President – Ben Baker

Vice-President – Andy Weaver

President-elect - Charles Markle

Buddy stated this concluded the election report and moved that the election results be affirmed and the ballots destroyed. Melody Caldwell seconded the motion and all were in favor of accepting the election results as stated.

President Gibson then thanked everyone for their support and recognized all officers who served the Association for the past year. Buddy Jackson recognized Jonna Gibson for her service to AASFAA in her position as president of the Association.

Jonna then recognized each committee chair for their service and support. She then thanked Dave Gelinas for his support in attending this conference. Jonna presented to two former member of AASFAA, Honorary Lifetime Membership. These awards were presented to Jan Hilyer, Alabama Commission on Higher Education, and Martha Hall, Auburn University (Mike Reynolds accepted the award in her place).

Dr. Bill Wall then nominated several distinguished members for the lowest of all awards – the AASFAA Over Award, who must pay $1 each year toward the scholarship fund. The winner of this honor for 2007 was Clark Aldridge.

President Gibson then presented the AASFAA Scholarships as follows:

The Shirley Speer Legacy Scholarship – Troy Dothan

The Floyd Johnston Legacy Scholarship – OakwoodCollege

The Bill Gentry Legacy Scholarship – Southern Union

The Theresa Duke Legacy Scholarship – Northwest Shoals

The Dr. William H. Wall Legacy Scholarship – University of Alabama in B’ham

Jonna then presented $1,000 scholarships to representatives from the following colleges:

ReedStateCommunity College

Auburn University-Montgomery

TroyUniversity

LurleenB.WallaceCommunity College

GadsdenStateCommunity College

Jonna recognized all former recipients of the John H. Buchanan Distinguished Service award and announced that this year’s award would be presented to Kay Ivey, State Treasurer, on May 23rd. Jonna then asked all former M. Cecil Padgett Outstanding Achievement Award recipients to come forward, be recognized, and welcome Andy Weaver, University of Alabama-Huntsville, as the 2007 recipient.
