A4ID Communications Volunteer

Advocates for International Development (A4ID) is the charity that empowers lawyers to use their skills to fight world poverty. Through our pro bono broker, legal education and policy work we are helping the legal sector to meet its global corporate social responsibility to bring about world development.For more information about our work and our partners, please take a look at our website: http://www.a4id.org/.

A4ID provides volunteer roles for individuals hoping to gain further experience in the legal and charitable sectors. We offer a variety of positions to suit individuals' skills and experience in communications, fundraising, pro bono and development learning. Roles are six months long and usually run from January-June and July-December.

All volunteers assist A4ID’s staff team and are encouraged to attend meetings, contribute ideas and assist in the development of all areas of the charity and its programmes.

Communications Volunteer roles

Communication is an important component of A4ID’s work. The organisation needs to show lawyers how their skills are helping to change lives. This is an exciting opportunity for somebody with a passion for communications to make a real difference to our charity.

This role involves assisting A4ID’s CEO, with typical tasks including:

  • Working with the pro bono team, policy team and development or legal partners to draft case studies, blogs and articles highlighting the recent work of A4ID.
  • Liaising with external communications consultants and providers.
  • Managing the production of a quarterly newsletter.
  • Using InDesign software to update and create A4ID publications.
  • Posting approved content on A4ID’s social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Uploading approved content on to A4ID’s website.
  • Assisting staff and other intern with internal communications tasks as required.

Applicants should possess the following skills/qualifications:

Required

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Competent IT skills including experience of Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Quick to learn new software packages and databases.
  • Understanding of social media.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification/professional experience.
  • Interest in international development and the law.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a legal and/or charitable organisation.
  • Previous background or experience in international development.
  • Understanding and experience of Adobe InDesign software.
  • Understanding and experience of WordPress Content Management Systems.
