I. Expectations:
A. You must attend your assigned practice at least once a week.
1. You are only allowed 3 absences. (If you are unable to attend
your practice, you must make arrangements with your coach to
make up your practice on another day.)
B. You must be able to attend the Iroquois County Contest (Oct. 21 at
NASH) and State Contest (Oct. 29 at Buckley)
C. You must be passing all of your classes and maintain eligibility
throughout the duration of speech (September-October).
1. If you become ineligible, you MUST attend Homework Hangout
at least once a week (offered every Tuesday and Thursday) until
eligibility is proven.
2. Failure to attend Homework Hangout will count towards your 3
allowed absences.
D. You must have someone picking you up after your assigned practice. If
you will be going to the library, you must have a note from a parent
giving you permission to do so. If you will be carpooling, I also need
notes from both families documenting the riding situation.
E. Veteran students may participate in up to two performances; first
year students may participate in one of the following categories: Small
Group, Duet, Chorale, and Poetry.
1. Each performance that you participate in must be in a different
category. Ex: You may not participate in two duets.
2. Since our team must have as many categories covered as
possible, coaches have the final say on performance assignments.
F. Exceeding allowed absences, failure to meet memorization deadlines,
or being unprepared could result in removal from your event or the
team.
II. Fees:
A. Contest Fees: Each student is required to pay a participation fee of $5.00 per event that will cover IESA contest registration expenses in case you are unable to participate. Your money (check or cash) will be kept in a marked envelope. At the end of the season, if you participate in contest, you will get your money back. If, however, you drop out after Sept. 23 or find that you are unable to attend contest for an unexpected reason, the fee will be kept to cover registration expenses.
B. T-Shirts: Each participant is expected wear a team shirt for performances. You have the option of either borrowing a t-shirt or purchasing a t-shirt. The exact same t-shirt and design will be used again this year. If you already have a shirt that fits nicely, you do not have to purchase a second one unless you want to. The cost of a new shirt is $10 with an option to add lettering at an additional cost.
