AWIM Implementation Time Line

3.0 / Identify school(s) of interest for implementation
- May identify schools based on:
- Previous involvement with school
- Close vicinity to volunteer organization location
- Attended by children of potential volunteers
- If no school is identified, may contact local district(s) for support in identifying target school.
3.1 / May set up meeting with district if:
- Want to implement AWIM on a large scale in more than 1 school
- Have multiple (10 or more) volunteers interested in the program (enabling implementation at more than 1 school)
- Gain support at district level if necessary before approaching individual schools
4.0 / Set up Initial AWIM Discussion Meeting with target school
- Participation to include principal and potential teacher(s)

6.0 / Recruit Volunteers
Two volunteers minimum recommended per classroom of 30 students
- Volunteers may be recruited from organization membership, company employees, school parents, local SAE sections, local university SAE chapters, church, etc. It is understood that the school will satisfy any volunteerism policies the district/school may have.
- Volunteers do not need to be engineers, but should understand the curriculum being discussed in the classroom
7.0 / Attend Teacher/Volunteer Training Workshop
- Communicate training session opportunities to all individuals involved in your program – teachers & volunteers
- Teachers and volunteers from your program should be invited to the same training session. This helps establish team relationships early in the program.
- If no training is available in your area, utilize the implementation manual for understanding the implementation "How To's".
- Attending a training session is helpful, but not required. On-line training is currently being developed by SAE International.
