2017 FARMS

1.  Farms is instructional. The purpose of Farms is to continue to teach the fundamentals while starting to get into the nature of the game. There is no official score or standings in Farms.

2.  You want to teach the following:

A.  Where the bases are and what they are called

B.  The positions in the field

C.  How to properly hold and swing the bat

D.  How to properly hold, throw and catch the ball.

E.  Where the correct plays should be made and why.

3.  A rotating batting order is used.

4.  Each batter will get three chances to hit the ball from a pitching machine. If the batter has not hit the ball after three pitches, he or she has a choice of one more pitch from the machine or one swing off of the tee. Batters are only permitted to take one base and are not permitted to take extra basses on mistakes. If a ball is cleanly hit into the outfield, the batter can take one extra base but must stop at second.

5.  The ½ inning is over when the entire team has batted through the order or three outs have been recoded.

6.  2 coaches are permitted on field with the defensive team. One behind the shortstop and one behind the second baseman. This splits the field and allows the coaches to instruct the children what to do with the ball.

7.  Offensive coaches should be by first and third base to instruct the runners where to go. A third coach should be behind home plate to speed up the game if and when the catcher misses the ball.

8.  Any injuries must be reported at once no matter how severe. There will be accident forms in the hut and must be filled out to make sure insurance is in place for the child.

9.  Managers and coaches should arrive 15 minutes early to set up bases.

10.  Home team gets the bases and the away team rakes the field. If the field needs a lot of work both managers should help.

11.  The VP for your division is Chris Madden. His number is 516-313-2459 and email is . Any concerns or issues should go through him first. He will contact me if needed.

12.  At the end of the season each player gets a trophy. Following the last game, trophies, lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided by the league. All uniform pants must be returned after this game and prior to getting the awards. Players should wear sweat pants or bring something to change into after the game.

13.  Have a great season and above all, sportsmanship and fun should be taught.

14.  There is no smoking or drinking on or by the fields at any time.
