Sr. Technical Officer, Research Management Area, CSIR-Indian Institute Of Chemical Technology (CSIR- IICT) Hyderabad, A.P.; INDIA. ( From 1989 onwards & continuing)

* 27 years of diverse experience in Engineering and Management areas atCSIR-IICT, Hyderabad. IndianInstitute of Chemical Technology, is one of the topmost research institutes nationally and internationally acclaimed, a Chemical research R & D organization, wherein, our research programmes specialized in the areas of Energy,Healthcareand engaged in meeting the industrially and globally strategic areas of research.

* Worked in various areas of expertise namely- (i) Planning Coordination and Liaison Division (Operations Research division).(ii) Information and International Collaboration Division (iii) Business Development (Business Management Area), (iv) Chemical Engineering Sciences area (Pilot plants) and presently working as Sr.Technical Officer in Research Management areaat the International renowned research organization for technology transfer of technologies in the areas of new drug development and chemical sciences.

New Business Development: (From 1989 to 2001)

Worked on technology transfer activities by coordinating with both national and international clients by drafting MOU’s/Agreements on matters of mutual interest in the areas of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology & Chemical Sciences.

1. To work on proposals for transfer of technologies from lab level to pilot plant and upgrade to commercial scale.

2. Attend business enquiries from prospective clients and identify them for sponsorship and technology transfer for the cost effective technologies.

3. Participate during clients negotiations and finalization of the terms for sponsorship/technology transfer. Prepare estimates (break-up charges) for the sponsored or consultancy projects and obtain administrative and financial approvals subsequently.

4. To work in the process of execution of business contracts with both national and international clients.

5.Participate in the business development promotion activity during Industrial meets and scientific exhibitions in the country for client exposure and awareness by display of our technologies.

Research Management Area ( From 2007 ….. continuing)

  • IPR Management: To handle Intellectual Property rights (IPR) activities, IPR’s filing & maintenance matters of the institute with US PTO, EP & other PCT countries.To monitor granted patents and attend to the rejected and lapsed patents with the patent offices of these countries.
  • Technology management:Draft and execute techno-commercial inter institutional IPR/collaborative agreements between CSIR-IICT and foreign Universities/Institutes on areas of mutual interest in the area of biotechnology, new drug development and chemical sciences etc.To name a few researchInstitutions like Wisconsin, Windsor, Mayo Clinic, TU Dortmund Universities etc.
  • HR Management:

Organize Technology Led Entrepreneurship programmes at CSIR-IICT for improvement of skills for Ph.D. scholars (all over India), who would like to venture as entrepreneurs after their Doctoral research.

2. Organize scientific events in the organization by arranging elated lectures from eminent Scientists, Nobel Laureate invited from reputed Universities and Research Institutions all over the world.

3. To handle work related to foreign deputations of the institute scientists who take up overseas research studies and their participation in international seminars/conferences as part of bilateral exchange programmes.

  1. Given HR Project guidance to 20 M.B.A. students from national Universities in the areas of HRM and Financial Management areas viz Training, Performance Appraisal, Employee benefits, Emp. Satisfaction, budgeting, etc.

Service Tax:

Handling service tax case matters of the institute from 2013-16. Attending court proceedings of Tribunal courts at CESTAT Bangalore & Hyderabad with regard to an appeal filed by the institute against the Commissioner, Customs & service Tax, Hyderabad-III, Commissionerate, in connection with service tax penalties on Govt. funded projects.

Chemical Engineering Sciences (From 2001 – 2006)

I was actively Involved in the R & D projects for process development activities in the Up-scaling of technologies in pilot plants for their commercialization to industry with both national and international clients.

Projects Involved:

  • Instrumental in achieving ISO 9001-2002 certification for organization. I have assisted in the documentation and Implementation of ISO 9001: 2002 procedures in Up-scaling division (Pilot Plants) for the pilot plant equipment from 1-1-2002.
  • Execute R & D projects in pilot plants. Manage project deliverables, provide customer support, facilitate pilot plant operations, ensure on-time delivery and fulfill other customer liaison duties.

I was involved in the following R & D projects:

  1. In the manufacture of Xylose from bagasse during the pilot plant runs . It’s a Indegeneous technology developed by IICT from lab to Pilot plant level.The technology is ready for commercialization to external clients.
  2. In the pilot plant runs for the manufacture of Benzaldehyde .It’s a sponsored project by IICT for M/s Vinati Organics Ltd. Mumbai, India
  3. In the pilot plant runs for the manufacture of Poly lactic acid from Molasses by M/s Reliance Industries Ltd.(Life Sciences), Mumbai, India.
  4. Carryied out the process development work for the manufacture of Phosgene from oxidation of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) by a new route and studying its kinetics at pilot plant level.
  5. In the process development work for the production of Triphenyl phosphine from Triphenyl phosphine oxide using phosgene at pilot plant level.

Safety works:

* Carried out safety aspects of the pilot plants that involve:

(i) Procurement of safety equipment and purchase of high quality personal protective equipment to pilot plant personnel.

(ii) Arrangement of first aid box in the plant areas and to provide medical facilities to the staff.

(iii) Training imparted to pilot plant staff and to ensure that, the personnel are - Trained on the proper use , care, cleaning and disposal of PPE.

- Knowledge of Precautions of safety

- Proper use of fire extinguishers.

- To promote adequate participation of pilot plant personnel in

improving conditions of work and environment.

1.Participated in “ Workshop on PATENTS Expand your Intellectual PropertyTM” , held at UICT, Mumbai during 27th & 28th Nov.2007.

2. Programme attended on “Intellectual Property Rights and World Trade Organization Related Issues” for Sr. Scientists at ASCI, Hyderabad (April 28-May2, 2008).

3. Deputed to attend Training programme on “ IPR & WTO issues” at ASCII Hyd. from 28-04-08 to 2-05-2008.

4. Participated for 5 days advanced training course on “Patents (IPR) for Engineering, R & D science at NIIPM, Nagpur from 19th Jan-23rd Jan 2009.

5. Attended “ Training Programme on Competency Development For Technical Officers” held at HRDC, Ghaziabad during 28th Sept. – 1st Oct.2010-
