Citizenship and Work Habits:

The Citizenship and Work Habit grades will be assessed using the school wide accepted Citizenship And Work Habits Rubric located in your Time Tracker. If you receive good Citizenship and Work Habit grades, you earn eligibility for field trips, scholarships league, or certain classes, etc. Likewise, if you receive poor Citizenship and Work Habit grades, you will lose the privileges above. Please take these grades seriously! Additionally, our class uses chromebooks to help support students in academics. If students are found on sites other than directed students will receive a U for their citizenship grade. Academic dishonesty will result in detention, communication with parents and a 0 grade for the assignment. Refer to the Citizenship Rubric in the Time Tracker for more specifics.

Science Interactive Notebook:

Needed by September 5/6, 2017: A 3-subject college ruled, 8by 11” spiral notebook with plastic cover.

Most class activities, mini-lab write ups, etc, will be put into your Science Notebook. Unfinished work needs to be finished at home and checked by the next class period unless otherwise specified. It is crucial to stay organized and current with your notebook. There will be a teacher copy for reference and other students will have identical notebooks, so find a study buddy!

Projects/ Labs/ Reports:

If you were absent during a lab, it is your responsibility to make it up during PAWS for full credit within 2 weeks from the lab. Any projects/ large lab reports turned in late will lose 10% of the total grade. Late work needs to be turned in 1 week before the end of the grading quarter.

Assessments:

Each unit will have at least one assessment at the end. Re-takes will be available for some assessments. Attendance in PAWS reteach lessons will be mandatory to re-take a test.

PAWS:

PAWS or Panther Achievement Workshop is an excellent resource for sixth grade science. Missed a lab? Find out when the make-up lab is! Want a better grade on your test? Schedule a retake! Something is not clear? Come in for a more in depth, focused discussion or reteach! Need help on an assignment? Bring in your questions and get answers! Want to learn even more about the topic being taught? Keep an eye out for an extension day where we try and blow your mind!

Parent Survival Guide

for 6th Grade Science

Entering Middle School is an exciting transition. One of the many differences that middle school brings is the experience of changing classes and teachers throughout the day. The constant change also means that staying informed and keeping organized is a must! Now that students have six teachers with six unique styles of teaching and middle school teachers have 170 students to teach…. Parent communication is quite different than in elementary school. I’ve compiled this survival guide based on the most common questions I receive from parents. Hopefully this guide will provide clarification and help you to better understand how I run my 6th grade Science Class.

CCMS Parent Portal (on-line grade access): Please check this bi-weekly; this is your key to keeping informed. Below I’ve included a list of what you can expect to find by logging into the CCMS Parent Portal. This can be accessed via the CCMS website.

●Your child’s current grade on all graded assignments.

●Your child’s current overall grade,

You can access the CCMS Parent Portal at anytime to see your child’s grades. Please keep in mind that this is my grade book and it may take a few days for assignments to be entered.

My CCMS Website: Please check my website as needed. I post the following things on my website daily:

●Assignments that is to be completed at home .

●A current table of contents for the Science Notebook.

●Educational material students may use to study or review material taught in class.

**If you subscribe to my website the site will send you the homework daily via email.

Your Child’s Interactive Science Notebook: Please check this weekly!

●Look at the point value on the pages of the current unit.

●If the score is below your expectations then your child can improve the assignment and bring it in before or after school for FULL credit any time before the end of the unit.

Since organization on the part of the middle school student often needs some fine-tuning it is important that you check their progress daily. To help with this, I work on teaching the students how to organize the first quarter. Please check the following items often:

●My CCMS website

●Student time tracker

●CCMS Parent Portal

●Finally check that they have completed the work in their notebooks.

Contact and Communication: I feel that Parent connection and support is extremely important in a child’s success at school. By working together, we are partners in the education process. I always appreciate hearing from parents. If you have concerns or questions about your child’s progress in my class, I would like to encourage you to get in touch with me. The best way to reach me is via e-mail. I appreciate any support you give at home and look forward to a successful year!

Due to scheduling I am better able to respond more quickly to e-mails than I am to phone calls.

Carlene Daggett

Thank-you for your assistance and hard work.

I look forward to an exciting and successful year in Science class!
