Confession and Absolution

P:Lord Jesus, You rose from the dead to save us.

C:We recognize our sin and that we have disobeyed You.

P:Let us now confess our sins to the Lord.

C:Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

P:God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life, innocent death, and triumphant resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child, who is at peace with Him. May God give you strength to live according to his will.

C:Amen!

P:Christ is risen!

C:He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

First Lesson Exodus 15:1-11

The hand of the Lord has saved his people

Then Moses and the Israelites sang this songto theLord:

“I will singto theLord,
for he is highly exalted.
Both horse and driver
he has hurled into the sea.

“TheLordis my strengthand my defense;
he has become my salvation.
He is my God,and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalthim.
TheLordis a warrior;
theLordis his name.
Pharaoh’s chariots and his army
he has hurled into the sea.
The best of Pharaoh’s officers
are drowned in the Red Sea.
The deep watershave covered them;
they sank to the depths like a stone.
Your right hand,Lord,
was majestic in power.
Your right hand,Lord,
shatteredthe enemy.

“In the greatness of your majesty
you threw down those who opposed you.
You unleashed your burning anger;
it consumedthem like stubble.
By the blast of your nostrils
the waters piled up.
The surging waters stood up like a wall;
the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea.
The enemy boasted,
‘I will pursue,I will overtake them.
I will divide the spoils;
I will gorge myself on them.
I will draw my sword
and my hand will destroy them.’
But you blew with your breath,
and the sea covered them.
They sank like lead
in the mighty waters.
Who among the gods
is like you,Lord?
Who is like you—
majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory,
working wonders?

Second Lesson 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

The resurrection of Christ

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospelI preached to you,which you received and on which you have taken your stand.By this gospel you are saved,if you hold firmlyto the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

For what I receivedI passed on to youas of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,that he was buried,that he was raisedon the third day according to the Scriptures,and that he appeared to Cephas,and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,and last of all he appeared to me also,as to one abnormally born.

For I am the least of the apostlesand do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecutedthe church of God.But by the graceof God I am what I am, and his grace to mewas not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.Whether, then, it is I or they,this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

Verse of the Day: Alleluia. Alleluia. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Alleluia. (Psalm 118:24)

Gospel Lesson Luke 24:1-12

MThe Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, Chapter 24.

CGlory be to you, O Lord!

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had preparedand went to the tomb.They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightningstood beside them.In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:‘The Son of Manmust be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’”Then they remembered his words.

When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with themwho told this to the apostles.But they did not believethe women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves,and he went away,wondering to himself what had happened.

Hymn of the Day 719 Christ Has Arisen, Alleluia

Sermon Job 19:25

I know that my Redeemer lives!

I know that my Redeemerlives,and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.

The Confession of Belief in the Resurrection1 Corinthians 15

M:If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.

C:But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

M:Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not sleep, but we will all be changed – in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.

C:For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable.

M:For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true; “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

C:Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?

M:The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

C:But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Choir sings Alleluia, He is Risen!

Alleluia! Alleluia! The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad; The Passover of gladness, the Passover of God. From death to life eternal, from earth unto the sky, Our Christ has brought us over with hymns of victory.

Our hearts be pure from evil, that we may see aright The Lord in rays eternal of resurrection light; And list’ning to His accents, may hear, so calm and plain, His own “All hail!” and, hearing, may raise the victor strain!

Now let the heav’ns be joyful! Let earth her song begin! The world resound in triumph, and all that is therein; Let all things seen and unseen their notes of gladness blend; For Christ the Lord has risen, our joy that has no end.

Alleluia! He is risen! Amen!

Requested prayers may follow

M:Hear us Lord, as we bring you our private petitions.

M:Hear us, O Father, for the sake of him who is the firstborn of the dead and is now alive forevermore, Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. It is in his name that we bring this and every prayer to you, just as he taught:

C:Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
