A RESOLUTION honoring the life-long contributions of Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby.
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby is married to the lovely Barnetta Turner Cosby and from that holy union Christine Cosby and Kevin Christopher Cosby were created; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University, a master's degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctorate from the United Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby is Senior Pastor of St. Stephen Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, which under his leadership has evolved from a 500 member church to a 9,000 member, multi-faceted institution that was recognized by Emerge Magazine as one of the six super churches of the South; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby has been a faithful shepherd of his flock, zealously overseeing the finances of the church which has reaped numerous benefits, including a 1,700 seat worship center, a cutting-edge $4 million dollar inner-city Family Life Center, a 1,000 seat satellite church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and the purchase of a 4 acre Lifestyle Enrichment Campus that is home to Simmons Bible College, the oldest African-American institution in the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby has accepted administrative and teaching assignments at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, and has accepted lecturing engagements at colleges, universities, churches, and institutions around the world; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby continues to be an outspoken leader in his local community, around Louisville Metro, throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and across the United States of America, and in 2005, was named the 13th President of Simmons Bible College; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby is the author of three highly acclaimed books, Get off Your But!, As they Went, and Treasure Worth Seeking and has been the subject of several national news articles and documentaries; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby is an outstanding spiritual leader and an effective consensus-builder who has amassed a distinguished record of service throughout his illustrious career, having accumulated honors, awards, and accolades too numerous to list;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its genuine appreciation to Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby for his tireless and diligent devotion to his local community, to Louisville Metro, and to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Section 2. The Senate does hereby honor the life-long contributions of Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby.
Section 3. When the Senate adjourns on this day, it dismisses in honor and in tribute to Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby.
Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Reverend Dr. Kevin W. Cosby, 1018 South Fifteenth Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40210.
