A RESOLUTION honoring Georgetown College President William H. Crouch, Jr., upon his retirement.

WHEREAS, as a native son of Kentucky, Dr. William H. Crouch, Jr. was born in Louisville, and earned his bachelor’s degree at Wake Forest University and his master’s and doctorate degrees from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary; and

WHEREAS, since 1991, Dr. William H. Crouch, Jr. has served as the President of Georgetown College, offering both visionary leadership and leadership-by-example not only in academic and corporate worlds, but also in the community of Christian faith; and

WHEREAS, as President, Dr. Crouch has enhanced the College’s academic experience by leading efforts to more than double the number of faculty with Ph.D.s, create a model faculty growth and development program, redesign the General Education curriculum, and establish such innovative programs as the President’s Ambassadors, the Equine and Global Scholars Program, the Presidential Mentorship Program, and the Apprenticeship Challenge; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Crouch has significantly expanded the campus by providing such new buildings as the nationally acclaimed Ensor Learning Resource Center, the Anne Wright Wilson Fine Arts Building, the renovation of the Ruth Pearce Wilson Laboratory Theater, and the construction of the high profile Athletic and Conference Center Complex, which for 15 years served as the summer camp for the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Crouch has been instrumental in increasing Georgetown College’s student enrollment while simultaneously broadening the demographics and diversity of the campus both geographically and culturally, leading to a stronger student collegiate experience built upon an inclusive Christian identity of academic freedom, hospitality, and respect of all people; and

WHEREAS, during Dr. Crouch's presidential tenure, Georgetown College brought national attention to all of Kentucky through National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic championships in football in 1991, 2000, 2001, and in men’s basketball in 1998 and 2013, demonstrating that academic and athletic excellence is achievable with honor; and

WHEREAS, during his presidency, Dr. Crouch served the Commonwealth on numerous community boards, including the Executive Committee of the United Way of the Bluegrass, the Lexington Area Sports Authority, Bluegrass Tomorrow, and the Kentucky 2010 World Equestrian Games Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Crouch has also served his profession as a member of the National Board of Directors of the Council of Independent Colleges, and as Chair of the Board of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Crouch has served the Commonwealth admirably and now announces his well-deserved retirement as the twenty-third President of Georgetown College;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body recognizes and congratulates Dr. William H. Crouch, Jr., upon his retirement as President of Georgetown College.

Section 2. This honorable body tenders President Crouch best wishes and expresses its appreciation for his 22 years of service to Georgetown College and to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Chair of the Board of Trustees, Georgetown College, 400 East College Street, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324.
