A RESOLUTION honoring Ashton Lee Hughes.

WHEREAS, Ashton Hughes is an energetic, strong 10-year-old 4th-grade student at South Edmonson Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, when he was seven years old, Ashton was taken to the emergency room for flu-like symptoms. His symptoms would worsen, and over the next three years his doctors would remain perplexed about what was happening to him; and

WHEREAS, some days he was strong and active, while others he would sleep for hours on end. He had to sleep on the bottom bunk beneath his seven-year-old sister's bed because he was too weak to climb to the top bunk by himself; and

WHEREAS, Ashton has been diagnosed with ten diseases, has suffered through four drug allergies, is on 13 daily medications, and has multiple monthly doctors' appointments. He and his family have persevered and fought to live the normal, happy life that most take for granted. Diagnosed with juvenile arthritis, he currently has nine doctors from Bowling Green to Louisville; and

WHEREAS, this honorable body commends Ashton Hughes today for his courage and uncommon bravery against this disease, acknowledges the extraordinary efforts of his team of doctors and nurses who help him with the many treatments he must receive, and honors his family for their diligence and sacrifice as they too suffer with the pain and strife of this debilitating illness alongside their courageous little boy;
