A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Kevin Matsuto Ebata.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Kevin Matsuto Ebata, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Kevin Matsuto Ebata, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, traversed these earthly bounds on December 31, 2001; he was the loving son of Doris F. Ebata, the devoted husband of Kelli Ebata, and the adored father of a daughter, Kathryn, a stepson, David, and a stepdaughter, Kristin; and he was the loving brother of a sister, Marilyn S. Naito, and two brothers, Keith K. Ebata and Vinson T. Ebata; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Matsuto Ebata was employed by the Hawaii House of Representatives as Sergeant-at-Arms, a prestigious position that requires a majority vote of House members, with duties including providing security for offices and chambers of the House; and at the time of his passing, he was serving his third term as president of the National Legislative Services and Security Association, an organization of sergeants-at-arms, security personnel and support services staff for state legislatures across the United States; he hosted the NLSSA twenty-fifth Annual Training Conference in Honolulu in 1998, and he was a member of the Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee and represented NLSSA at National Conference of State Legislatures meetings; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Matsuto Ebata was an integral part of the legislative process in the State of Hawaii, and his passion and dedication for the democratic institution was demonstrated daily through the causes he steadfastly believed in and his faithful service to the Hawaii House of Representatives; and because of his many efforts and achievements, he became a recent recipient of the Tony Beard Sr. Award and the LSCC Legislative Staff Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Kevin Matsuto Ebata has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of Kevin Matsuto Ebata, and extends to his family and many friends its most profound and deepest sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Kevin Matsuto Ebata.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Kelli Ebata, 700 Richards Street, No. 1905, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813.
