A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Eleanor Hutchinson.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Eleanor Hutchinson, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.

WHEREAS, Eleanor Hutchinson was born on April 28, 1922, a native of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and traversed these earthly bounds on February 12, 1998; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Hutchinson was the loving daughter of the late Daniel Jackson and Minnie Rucker Jackson; she was the devoted wife of Jerome Hutchinson for 44 years; she was the adored mother of a daughter, Seretha Tinsley of Winter Park, Florida; and a son, Jerome Hutchinson, Jr., of Louisville; and she was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Hutchinson graduated from Municipal College in 1945, a school for black people run by the University of Louisville; and she was a longtime social worker for the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, although Eleanor Hutchinson lived a life of care and concern for the people and needs of her community, she will best be remembered as being instrumental in starting the Clothe-a-Child project along with Frank Stanley, publisher of the Louisville Defender; Clothe-a-Child is a citywide and countywide ministry that is devoted to clothing poor children; in 1985, Eleanor Hutchinson retired from the state social services agency to operate this very worthwhile project, and through her leadership abilities, Clothe-a-Child has distributed more than $1 million worth of clothing; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Hutchinson was the recipient of the prestigious Lyman T. Johnson Distinguished Leadership Award in January, 1998; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Eleanor Hutchinson has left a void that will be difficult to fill, and she is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Eleanor Hutchinson, and extends to her family and wide circle of friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness that Eleanor Hutchinson brought to this Commonwealth will never be forgotten.

Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Eleanor Hutchinson.

Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Jerome Hutchinson, Sr., 3402 Kirby Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40211.
