EXAMINATION POLICY

[CONTINUOUS & COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION]

CLASSES VI – X

Date: 11/07/16

Dear Parents,

The scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation CCE- initiated by the CBSE is a system of evaluation that covers all aspects of student development.

The major emphasis of CCE is on the continuous growth of students, ensuring their intellectual, emotional, physical, cultural and social development. It is not limited to assessment of learner’s scholastic attainments only. Keeping the larger perspective of education in mind, Co-Scholastic areas have been give equal importance as academic subjects to ensure the holistic development of students, making them responsible citizens of the future. Thus, the assessment of students will cover both Scholastic and Co-Scholastic aspects.

Scholastic assessment will be carried out over two terms- Term I & Term II, through Formative and Summative assessments. In each term there will be two Formative assessments with a weightage of 10% each and one Summative assessment carrying a weightage of 30%.

Formative assessments will continuously monitor student progress through multiple modes of assessment such as assignments, projects, practical work, oral work, class response, homework, group activities, quizzes etc. & periodic tests.

Summative assessment is a written end-of-the term examination, which may consist of objective type, short answer & long answer questions.

It is compulsory for a student to appear in both the Summative Assessments during the academic year.

All scholastic assessments will be indicated in grades, according to the Board’s 9 point grading scale.

Co-Scholastic areas consist of life skills, attitudes and values, work education, visual & performing arts, co-curricular activities and health & physical education.

In Co-Scholastic Areas, students will be assessed on a 5 point grading scale A, B, C, D, E.

Students must obtain the qualifying grade (minimum grade D) in all the subjects under Scholastic and Co-Scholastic Domain.

For Class IX and X : A student would have to obtain atleast 25% marks in the Summative Assessments (both SA I & SA II taken together) and a minimum of 33% in the total of each subject, to be able to qualify the examination.

CBSE has also introduced the Open Text-based Assessment (OTBA) in the Summative Assessment – II, for class IX, which will test higher order thinking skills, and will be applicable to all the main subjects.

Assessments of Speaking and Listening Skills (ASL) in English will be a part of Summative Assessments and the ASL grade will be reflected in the performance profile.

GYAN JYOTI & SCHOLAR’S BLAZER

Classes VI- VIII : Gyan Jyoti will be awarded to students securing A1 grades in 5 subjects, provided they score a minimum grade of B1 in the remaining subject.
