A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Charles A. Reid.
The most prominent glory of a country is in its great men. A nation's spirit and its success will depend on its willingness to learn from their example. In life we shall find many men that are great and some men that are good, but very few men that are both great and good. With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to such a man, Charles A. Reid, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, Charles A. Reid was born on July 12, 1933, a native of Cloverport, Breckinridge County, Kentucky, and longtime resident of McClean County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on October 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS, Charles A. Reid was the loving son of Charles Mormon Reid and the late Mary Kathleen Elder Reid; he was the loving brother of John William Reid of Gonzales, Louisiana, and loving brother to a sister, Joyce Reid Maloney of Louisville; he was the devoted husband of forty-six years to Mitzi Reisz Reid, he was the adored father of four sons, Albert Reisz Reid, Christopher Charles Reid and David Brian Reid, all of Owensboro, and Kevin Louis Reid of Louisville; he was the adored father of three daughters, Tracy Kathleen Reid of Lexington, Kelly Reid Jackson of Frankfort, and Cathy Reid Switzer of Owensboro, and he was the proud grandfather of fifteen grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Charles A. Reid graduated from Holy Name High School in Henderson, he was a graduate of Brescia College with a bachelor of science degree in accounting, and he also graduated from the University of Wisconsin Banking School; and he served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy during the Korean War where his ship was part of "Operation Castle," a nuclear weapons test site conducted at Enewetak and Bikini Atolls in 1954, and these sailors are now referred to as "atomic veterans;" and
WHEREAS, Charles A. Reid was an esteemed member of the McClean and Daviess County communities where he began his banking career in 1969 as controller of Owensboro National Bank, and at the time of his passing, he was president of Independence Bank; he was past president of the McLean County Chamber of Commerce, he served on the board of directors at Green River Area Development District, the McLean County Industrial Foundation, the Community Foundation of Owensboro-Daviess County, Glenmary Sisters Charitable Trust, and Catholic Charities; and
WHEREAS, Charles A. Reid was a highly respected gentleman, not only for his many accomplishments, and the friendships he made and sustained through the years, but also for his understanding of the common man, which he demonstrated daily; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Charles A. Reid has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of Charles A. Reid, and extends to his family and many friends its most profound and deepest sympathy.
Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Charles A. Reid brought to this Commonwealth will never be forgotten.
Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this date, it does so in loving memory and honor of Charles A. Reid.
Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Mitzi Reisz Reid, 2003 Griffith Place East, Owensboro, Kentucky 42301.
