A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Annie Burke Courtney.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Annie Burke Courtney, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.

WHEREAS, Annie Burke Courtney was born on July 19, 1984, a native of Rowan County, Kentucky, and she traversed these earthly bounds on January 15, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Annie Burke Courtney was the adored daughter of Paul Daniel Courtney and Anne Barnard Courtney; and she was the loving granddaughter of her paternal grandmother, Nellie Burke Courtney, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, and her maternal grandmother, Anne Ficklin Barnard, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, at the time of her premature passing, Annie Burke Courtney was a devout member of Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church, and she excelled as a senior at Rowan County High School in Morehead, Kentucky; she was a member of the Governor's Scholars, an educational program for Kentucky's best and brightest high school students; she was a member of the Beta Club, and the school's speech, tennis, and soccer teams, and she also served as a student member on the steering committee for Morehead Tomorrow; and

WHEREAS, the passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Annie Burke Courtney brought to this Commonwealth will never be forgotten; a life spent worthily should be measured by deeds, not years, and through her compassion, enthusiasm, and genuine love and concern for her fellow man, Annie Burke Courtney is worthy of the highest commendation; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Annie Burke Courtney has left a void that can never be filled, and she is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Annie Burke Courtney, and extends to her loving family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Annie Burke Courtney.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Daniel Courtney, 159 Magnolia Drive, Morehead, Kentucky 40351.
