A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Honor and Loving Memory of Dorothy Hinkebein Dot Mershon

A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Dorothy Hinkebein "Dot" Mershon.

WHEREAS, Dorothy Hinkebein "Dot" Mershon was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of Clara Dannenhold and Edward H. Hinkebein, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Dot Mershon graduated from Sacred Heart Model School and Sacred Heart Academy. While in school, she developed a deep love of the arts, especially literature, theater, and music, and this love remained strong throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, Dot Mershon was active in her community. She volunteered as an art therapist at our Lady of Free Peace and was a professional art therapist at Baptist Hospital. She gave back to countless charitable organizations, such as the Catholic Theater Guild, the Boy and Girl Scouts, the Bellarmine Women's Council, the Queen's Daughters, the Sierra Club's Women's Auxiliary, the St. Ann's Confraternity, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society; and

WHEREAS, Dot Mershon served God as a member of Holy Spirit Parish. She was a faithful and tireless steward; along with her duties as Eucharistic Minister, she participated in Saturday morning prayer group and the parish prayer chain; and

WHEREAS, Dot Mershon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward "Ollie" Mershon, Jr.; her siblings, Mary Jane Robinson, Edward H. Hinkebein, Jr., Margaret Heskamp, and Helen Roberts; and her granddaughter, Janna Mershon. She is survived by her siblings, Thelma Carney, Charlotte Fensterer, Jack (Martha) Hinkebein, Betty Franck (Jerry) Dodge, and Joanne May (Dick) Burnette; her loving children, Creighton (Claire), Mary Reisert (John), Doug (Julie), Nannette, Steve (Anna Lee), Melissa, Paul Dugan, and Matt (Molly); eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Dot Mershon departed this earthly life on January 7, 2011, and an entire community joins her family and friends in mourning her loss;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate conveys its most sincere condolences and sympathy to the family, friends, and community of Dorothy Hinkebein "Dot" Mershon.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Dorothy Hinkebein "Dot" Mershon.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit 10 copies of this Resolution to Melissa A. Mershon, 112 Crestwood Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40206-2703.
