A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Jean W. Calvert.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Jean W. Calvert, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.
WHEREAS, Jean W. Calvert was born on September 22, 1915, a native of Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky, and she traversed these earthly bounds on February 11, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Jean W. Calvert was the loving daughter of the late William Walter and Marybelle Cady Weis; she was the devoted wife of the late Charles Clinton Calvert Jr., and she also was preceded in death by a son, William Clinton Calvert; she is survived by a loving son, Charles A. Calvert of Maysville, and a loving daughter, Carol Calvert Collins of Edgewood; she was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, Lisa Collins, Kim Collins, James Collins IV, Andrew Collins, Charlie Calvert, Cady Calvert, Blair Manning, and Shae Manning; and she also was the proud great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Jean W. Calvert was a devout member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served on the board and was the archives chairman, and also where her funeral service was held on Valentines Day, February 14, 2005, a befitting day for such a wonderful, loving, and caring lady; and
WHEREAS, Jean W. Calvert was a graduate of Maysville High School class of 1933; she was a 1935 graduate of Ward Belmont Junior College in Nashville, Tennessee; and she was a 1937 graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she also was the recipient of an honorary doctor of humanities degree in 1996; and
WHEREAS, Jean W. Calvert was an esteemed member of the Mason County community, and she brought to her community the enthusiasm she displayed throughout life; she was a member of the Limestone Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Daughters of American Colonists, and the Friends of Public Archives; she was instrumental in the formation of the Mason County Museum, now known as the Museum Center, and she wrote a column which appeared in The Ledger Independent each week, entitled "Museum Musings," which ultimately was responsible for the donation of hundreds of items now on display in the archives; she was the first woman to join the board of the Maysville-Mason County Library, Historical, and Scientific Association, where she also became a trustee emeritus of the organization; and she also was involved in the Maysville Players, the Haywood Hospital Auxiliary, and the American Association of University Women; and
WHEREAS, Jean W. Calvert was named Beta Sigma Phi Lady of the Year in 1965, and she was the recipient of the DAR Historic Preservation Medal in 2004; she was honored with the Ida Lee Willis Award for preservation in 1998, and the Award of Distinction by the Kentucky Historical Society in 1987; she received the Maysville High School Alumni Award in 1987, and she was honored by the City of Maysville for her volunteer efforts in 1997; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Jean W. Calvert has left a void that cannot be filled, and she is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Jean W. Calvert, and extends to her family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Jean W. Calvert.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to Mr. Charles A. Calvert, 285 Bon Haven Drive, Maysville, Kentucky 41056 and to Mrs. Carol Calvert Collins, 3213 Laurel Oak Court, Edgewood, Kentucky 41017.
