A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of Lena Thurston Buckner Orme.

WHEREAS, Lena Thurston Buckner Orme, a native of Mason County, was born on January 16, 1919, the cherished daughter of the late Noble Thurston and Elizabeth Emmons Huff Buckner; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Orme was raised in Sardis and a member of Sardis United Methodist Church, before moving to Maysville in 1977. In 1978, she became a member of Washington Methodist Church, where she served as the worship chairman, sang in the choir, and taught the adult Sunday school class; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Orme graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1957, earning her bachelor's degree in elementary education. She devoted her life to teaching in the Robertson County and Mason County school systems until her retirement in 1988. In 1991, she was selected a 1936 graduating class Outstanding Alumni by the Mason County Board of Education. Mrs. Orme was an active member of the Mason County Retired Teachers Association and several educational organizations; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Orme enjoyed traveling, reading, dining with family and friends, and watching the University of Kentucky's basketball and football teams. She was very compassionate, touched many lives, and had many friends who comforted her in her later years; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Orme departed this earthly life at the age of 95 on February 2, 2014, leaving her family, friends, and an entire community in solemn mourning; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her parents, Mrs. Orme was preceded in death by a brother, James Noble Bucker; a sister, Genive "Jenny" Buckner Reed; a half-sister, Leona Buckner Collins; a half-brother, William T. Buckner; and a nephew, Stephen Noble Buckner. She is survived by her son, Gerald E. Orme; two grandsons, David and Chris Orme; four great-grandchildren, Dustin Orme, Seth Vice, Josh Vice, and Keshia Vallance Porter; three great-great-grandsons, Logan DeBoard, Jadrien Vice, and Kesaun Vice; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and proffers its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Lena Thurston Buckner Orme.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Lena Thurston Buckner Orme.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Gerald E. Orme, 1214 Wadsworth Street, Maysville, Kentucky 41056.
