A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of Dr. Kathleen Drummond.

WHEREAS, Dr. Kathleen Drummond was born on a farm in Clark County, Illinois, on September 22, 1918, the cherished daughter of the late Thomas and Golda Drummond; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Drummond received her B.S. in Business Education from Indiana State University in 1939, her M.S. from the University of Illinois in 1940, and her Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1963; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Drummond was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. She enlisted in 1943 and rose to the rank of Captain before her retirement in 1946. She managed the Post Exchange at the Marine Corps Air Station at Mojave, California, and was a member of the Marine Corps Reserve Association in Louisville, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Drummond was a masterful educator who touched the lives of every student she taught. Her goal in the classroom was "perfection," and she tirelessly pursued that goal while becoming a mentor and friend to so many of her students throughout her esteemed career; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Drummond began her teaching career in 1940, when she taught business courses at Charleston High School. From 1946 until her retirement in 1988, she served on the faculty of the School of Business at the University of Louisville, where she was renowned for her talent as an educator and for the inimitable mark she left on her students; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Drummond's legacy at the University of Louisville is unmatched. She founded the Master of Arts in Teaching in Business Education program, and the Drummond Executive Center at UofL is rightfully named in her honor; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Drummond is known in this Commonwealth as one of the pioneers in business education, and her work with helping women succeed in the world of business is particularly notable. She was active in the Kentucky chapters of the Professional Secretaries Association and the Professional Legal Secretaries Association. She also inaugurated and administered the Certified Professional Secretary Examination in Kentucky, and co-founded and served on the Kentucky Board of Records Management; and

WHEREAS, on February 11, 2014, Dr. Kathleen Drummond departed her life of tireless service and entered into eternal rest, leaving her family, friends, and an entire community in solemn mourning; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Drummond was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Drummond. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy; by her nieces, Kathleen Lindstaedt and her husband, John, Gael Murphy and her husband, Bret, and Martha Buchanan and her husband, Joel; and by her great-niece and great-nephew, Lauren and Drake Buchanan;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The members of the House of Representatives, both individually and collectively, express their most profound and sincere condolences upon the passing of Dr. Kathleen Drummond, and extend their heartfelt sympathy to her family in this time of loss.

âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns on this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Dr. Kathleen Drummond.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Mrs. Kathleen Lindstaedt, 8080 Sargent Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46256-1836.
