A. POSITION SUMMARY

Position Title: / Engagement and CollaborationManager

Reports to this position / One PHD student under a partnership with Western Sydney University reports to this position.
Project staff and volunteers dependent on funding.
Status: / 4 days per week. This position will initially be for 12 months with possible extension subject to funding.

B PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Woodville Alliance is a not-for-profit community organisation providing disability services, early childhood educationand community services includingmental health prevention, early intervention, family and community services and programs for young people.
We work mainly in South Western Sydney and Western Sydney with centres in East Fairfield, Carramar and Auburn.
Woodville Alliance has been working collaboratively with local organisations to establish the Hope+ initiative using collective impact principles to address youth disadvantage focusing on youth unemployment.
Hope + aimes to strengthen the Fairfield Community’s overall capacity to build strong opportunity pathways for young people into employment, training and education and to build better opportunities for young people.
The program, commenced in 2015 and has been a catalyst for bringing youth and employment service providers together to work collectively on solutions to improve outcomes for young people. These organisations worked together to develop a youth portal and to establish a youth employment readiness program, FirstTry.
The Engagement and Collaboration Managerwill build on this work and will focus on working with the General Manager, the CEO andpartner agencies to establish and maintain senior level engagement and collaborations with community organisations, government bodies and business.
While Hope+ is the priority initiative for this position, the position will also seek opportunities, develop and manage a range of innovative initiatives and collaborations targeting young people, families and other priority communities.
The aim is to build on existing collaborationsto deliver innovative programs that impact in a real way on improving the lives of young people who are disengaged or disengaging from study or work.
The priority geographic focus for this position is Fairfield LGA especially the suburbs of Villawood and Carramar (postcode 2163)

C JOB PURPOSE

TheEngagement and CollaborationManager will leadHope+and other collaborative and collective initiatives to:
  1. Undertake community consultation and need analysisto ensure programs are needs based and effectively targeted to young people who need them most.
  2. Working with the General Manager, the CEO and other partner agencies to establish and maintain senior level engagement and collaborations with community organisations, government bodies and business.
  3. Work with partner organisations and communities to co-design innovative programs and initiatives that improve social and economic opportunities for disengaged young people.
  4. Manage a research partnership with the University of Western Sydney and support a PHD student to develop research priorities and implement action research projects.
  5. Seek funding opportunities to support a collaborative and holistic approach to addressing youth disengagement, especially unemployment.
The focus of the role is to engage young people, other organisations and the community in developing holistic solutions to address youth disengagement and unemployment. These include: the local community, schools, employment & training providers, philanthropic groups, government, businesses, NGOs, and wider community stakeholders- interested in pooling resources to create even better career and capacity development opportunities for youth in Fairfield.
The Engagement and Collaboration Manager will work at building the capacity of this network of young people, community leaders and services to work well together in addressing gaps in skills, knowledge and career opportunity for young people in Fairfield.

Externally, the Engagement and Collaboration Manager will facilitate partnerships between a variety of stakeholders including:

  • State and National bodies.
  • Businesses

Internally, the Collaboration and Engagement Manager will work closely with the General Manager, Community Initiatives, other members of the Community Initiatives and other teams as well as the senior leadership team and the Board.

Key Result Area 1 / Build a collaborative coalition
KEY TASKS
  1. Build on networks established by the project to date.
  2. Identify key strategic partners who can contribute to addressing youth unemployment and social disadvantage in the target areas
  3. Develop appropriate promotional and communication strategies designed to attract and sustains coalition participation
  4. With the coalition further define and develop strategies to work together on building opportunities for Fairfield young people.
  5. Actively engage young people through creative engagement strategies, leadership programs and mentoring.
Key Performance Indicators
  1. A vibrant collaboration with shared vision and purpose, supported by senior leaders
  2. Collaboration results in contributions of time, resources and services towards a shared vision and plan
  3. High quality communication materials and time efficient communication strategies.

Key Result Area 2 / Conduct Research and Community Conversations
KEY TASKS
  1. Manage an effective research partnership with Western Sydney University
  2. Undertake consultation and community engagement projects to promote understanding of community issues
  3. Work with the community and wider stakeholders to build a deep appreciation of specific enablers and constraints to Fairfield young people accessing opportunity pathways
  4. Identify community assets including specific and potential opportunity pathways supporting young people into meaningful education, training, careers and lives
Key Performance Indicators
  1. Level of contribution to the production of timely and relevant WSU partnership research
  2. Level of community participation in ‘community conversations’ and other consultation methods
  3. Extent that strategies and programs are informed by evidence, research and consultation
  4. Clear evaluation strategies are in place to measure the impact of the collaboration

Key Result Area 3 / With partners, improve program design, extend existing programs and develop new programs
KEY TASKS
  1. Implement gap analysis, research and consultation to identify future priorities for collaboration.
  2. Undertake joint planning focusing on priorities that can have most impact.
  3. Facilitate service and program co-design involving partners, the community and young people.
  4. In partnership with WSU, identify best practice programs and work with service providers to extend, further develop or replicate these.
  5. Link coalition members to resources to strengthen program reach & impacts including: funding sources, corporate and pro bono services, opportunities to engage community participation, and opportunities partnership.
  6. Work with the WA team to co-ordinate programs being delivered as our contribution to the collaboration.
  7. Manage projects funded to complement the Hope+ program.

  1. Partners report that the collaboration has a positive impact on the reach, targeting and outcomes of the programs they implemented as part of the collaboration.
  2. Number of innovative programs that are co-designed and implemented.
  3. Level of improvements in social connections, opportunities and well-being reported by the target communities.
  4. Levels of unemployment among young people in Fairfield is reduced.

Key Result Area 4 / Increase funding to Hope+ and other collective initiatives
KEY TASKS
  1. Explore funding and social impact investment opportunities.
  2. Prepare tenders and funding proposals.
  3. Build relationships with funders and investors and promote and nurture funding collaborations and partnerships.
  4. Prepare reports to funderson program impacts and progress.
  5. Seek out relevant new funding opportunities that will assist the development of Hope+ and other collaborations.
Key Performance Indicators- for the tasks
1. Timely and quality reporting.
2. Level of new funding for Hope+ and other collaborations.
3. Increase in funding to other strategic projects linked to Hope+ and other collaborations.
4. Funders are satisfied that programs they fund are having a positive impact.
Key Result Area 4 / Be a collaborative member of the Woodville Alliance Team
KEY TASKS
  1. Participate in and sometimes lead joint projects with other members of the Woodville Alliance and Community Initiatives Team.
  2. Participate in relevantinternal meetings and events and represent the General Manager as required.
  3. Undertake other tasks not listed above that may be requested from time to time by the General manager.

F. RECRUITMENT INFORMATION

To be successful in this role you will need:
  • Tertiary qualifications, in relevant discipline.
  • Senior level experience in community development, collaboration and partnerships with demonstrated success in achieving outcomes for disadvantaged communities. Experience with ‘collective impact’ models is favourable but not essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to negotiate, present to and network with stakeholders at various levels from community members through to CEOs, Business leaders and funders.
  • Understanding of socio economic disadvantage and factors contributing to youth unemployment and best practice models to address youth unemployment.
  • High level of initiative, flexibility and the ability to operate in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Experience in working with culturally diverse communities and a commitment to social inclusion and social justice.
  • Commitment to safe work practice and quality assurance
