The following positions are open for election at the 2007 Skate Canada – Saskatchewan Annual General Meeting: Chairperson, First Vice Chairperson, Second Vice Chairperson, Competitions Chairperson, two (2) Directors.

All positions are for a two (2) year term.

Skate Canada announces winners of this season’s President’s CanSkate Challenge

Skate Canada announced today the winners of this season’s President’s CanSkate Challenge.

The President’s CanSkate Challenge was initiated in the 2004-2005 season to help increase the number of CanSkate members across the country.

The program has been successful so far. In its first full season, the CanSkate membership from the 2004-2005 season of 106,478 increased to 117,602 in 2005-2006, which stands as an increase of over 11,000 CanSkate members.

“We are very enthusiastic about the growth of the CanSkate program our clubs and skating schools achieved last season,” said Jeff Partrick, Skate Canada Chief Membership Officer. “We are equally encouraged by the early membership numbers this season, which also indicate a significant increase in CanSkate membership across the country.”

CanSkate, presented by BMO Financial Group, is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. Lessons are given in a group format and led by a National Coaching Certification Program certified professional coach. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning. CanSkate is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada skating programs.

The winners of the 2006-2007 President’s CanSkate Challenge are as follows:

The top-seven clubs / skating schools in the country and the top club / skating school in each section win two all-event ticket packages to the 2008 BMO Canadian Championships, which will be held Jan. 16 - 20 in Vancouver.

In addition, the first-place finisher overall receives two all-event ticket packages to the 2007 International Skating Union World Synchronized Skating Championships, which take place March 30 - 31 in London, Ont., plus two nights accommodation in London.

The second-place finisher overall is awarded a $400 gift certificate for Skate Canada programming supplies, while the third-place finisher overall receives a $300 gift certificate for Skate Canada programming supplies.
