Campus Publicity Guidelines

Partners across campusat The Ohio State University at Mansfield, including Marketing and Communications, and Student Life, offer many services to our campus associates, including creating and implementing a publicity plan, public relations, advertising placement, brand compliance, and graphic and web design. These guidelines are intended to help you better understand the services we provide in order make the best use of our resources.

Publicity plans created may include both internal consumers (campus and university) and external consumers (the general public).

Below are some modes available internally and externally to ensure publicity for your event oryour accomplishment is widely and appropriately publicized.

Internal Publicity Modes (Student Life)

In50 – This weekly email publication goes out to students, faculty and staff at Ohio State Mansfield. A similar version is distributed to North Central State College students, faculty and staff. A short paragraph about the event including date, time and place works effectively.

DRM screens – TV monitors are stationed in every building on campus, at both Ohio State Mansfield and NC State, as well as at NC State’s Downtown Center and Kehoe Center. These screens are especially effective for publicizing student events open to all on campus, but the general public can also view the screens when on campus or at one of the centers.

Student email–An email can be sent to Ohio State Mansfield students if more information needs to be disseminated than can fit in a DRM screen or in in50. These are done sparingly.

Event flyer – An eye-catching flyer placed on bulletin boards across campus can be a very effective method for publicizing an event. Student Engagement can assist with the production and distribution of the flyers.

Social Media – Student Life area manages Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube pages. Our audience includes students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. We host channels specifically for students. It’s a great way to get the word out about your event!

Text Messaging—Student Life has a text messaging service with 3 accounts and the ability to text to student subscribers

Online Publicity Modes (Marketing and Communications)

Event Calendar – Events can be self-submitted for the Event Calendar on mansfield.osu.edu as soon as the information is set – date, time and place as well as some basic information about the event. After the online form is submitted, the web manager checks formatting and publishes the event.

Website –Feature stories about accomplishments by faculty, staff, students and alumni are placed in the feature slider on the homepage, and then archived on the site. Some events might be included on a webpage associated with the department sponsoring the event; for example, the Art Gallery or Theatre might want to create a page for their events.

Social Media –Marketing and Communications manages Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube pages, all titled osumansfield. Our audience includes students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. Many areas, such as Student Life, host channels specifically for students. We maintain a comprehensive media list for local and Northeast Ohio print, online, radio and TV stations.
