A message from the Media Center: Congratulations to SAMANTHA SMITLEY , Checkout Champion for the week of February 1st. Samantha has won a prize of her choice from the library’s prize shelf. You can be a Checkout Champion, too. Just check out a book, and you’ll automatically be entered in the weekly drawing. – MH

During February, we celebrate Black History Month, a month to honor the contributions of African Americans to United States history. Today’s Black History Month contemporary bio comes to us by way of the History Department:

John Cameron Urschelwas born June 24, 1991 in Winnipeg, Ontario. Urschel moved to Buffalo in high school and became a dual citizen of the US and Canada. After graduating high John attended Penn State where he majored in mathematics and playedcollege football. He earned a bachelor's and master's degrees while in school. Not only did John teach Calculus classes while at PSU, he also published several peer-reviewed articles in mathematics. John was drafted by the Ravens in the fifth round of the2014 NFL Draft, where he currently starts at center. John has not given up his love of all things math, as he begins pursuing a PhD in Mathematics fromMIT.

A fun fact for Engineer’s Week - There are over 25 major specialties under the Engineering/Engineering Technology fields. Check out tryengineering.org or discovere.org to see if there is a specialty that interests you. – MEA

A reminder to FBLA members and sports management students the Madison Square Garden field trip permission slips along with your check are due tomorrow, Friday 26th. – MC

Would you like to see one of your teachers get a pie in the face?? The teacher that collects the most money will do just that!! Put your spare change in their containers during the lunch mods this whole week. Proceeds go to help a student here at school. I hear Mr. Keiffer is a huge fan of pie! – TM

This is the last week to buy Junior prom tickets. If you want to experience "Romance in Rome", go to the North Hunterdon Thundertix website and purchase your ticket by Sunday March 28th. Talk to Ms. Schaefer or Mr. Owdij if you have any questions. – MO

The National Art Honor Society is doing an art supply drive for SAFE in Hunterdon organization. SAFE in Hunterdon provides support services for families (adults, teens, and children) who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence in their lives. The art supplies that we collect from this drive will go to their art therapy program. We are asking for new and slightly used art supplies as donations. Some examples of donations are, drawing books, marker sets, crayon boxes, rulers, glue, and paint. A box will be labeled and located in all of the art rooms. - RC

Would you like to receive recognition for the community service that you have done over the last year? If so, you should apply for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Check out the Community Service tab on the Gifted and Talented web site for more information and the application. Complete applications are due to Ms. Gorton on March 4th. - JG
