6. BRIEF RESUME OF INTENDED WORK

6.1 Need for the study:

Mootrashmari is a problem that has confronted clinicians since the time of Vedas.The prevalence of Mootrashmari is approximately 2 to 3% in the general population. Approximately 50% of the patients with previous urinary calculi have a re-occurrence within 10 years. Mootrashmari is 2 times more common in males than females. It occurs more often in the adults than in youngers and children.

Acharya Sushruta has described about the management of the Mootrashmari with the administration of Sneha, kashayakalpana and kshara etc. This entity may requires Shastra Chikitsa in the advanced or progressed stage.1

Kshara Parpati is one of the Rasayoga mentioned in the “SIDDHAYOGA SANGRAHA” for the treatment of Mootrashmari2, so the study has been undertaken for evaluating the efficacy of this drug in the management of Mootrashmari. In “Bhaisaya Ratnavali’ it is named as Shweta parpati3. Sheetala parpati and Vajra kshara are also its synonyms4.

6.2Review of literature:

This segment will contain;

Ayurvedic and Modern view of Mootrashmari.

Collection of the details of Kshara Parpati from various texts with its action, preparation and usage.

Collection of the references from Internet and Journals.

6.3 Objective of study:

To evaluate the Kshara parpati in the management of Mootrashmari.

Detailed study of Mootrashmari as per ayurveda and also in contemporary medicine.

6.4 HYPOTHESIS:

H0- There is no effect of KSHARA PARPATI in the management of Mootrashmari.

HA- There is significant effect of KSHARA PARPATI in the management of Mootrashmari.

7. Material and Methods:

7.1 Source of data:

Minimum 30 patients will be selected randomly who are suffering from Mootrashmari from the IPD and OPD of Alva’s Ayurveda Medical College Hospital Moodbidri.

7.2 Methods of collection of data:

A single blind trial with a pre and post test design, where a minimum 30 patients of either sex with the age group 15 to 60 years will be selected randomly and put them into a single group. The parameters of signs, symptoms and investigations will be scored on the basis of standard methods of statistical analysis.

A)Procedure of administration of the drug:

A dose of 600mg is given twice a day in the form of capsule with cold water for Two months with 15 days time interval.

B)Observation time:

Observation upto 3 months with 15 days interval (2 months treatment period and one month follow up period).

C)Inclusion criteria:

Patients having age between 15 to 60 years.

Patients of all type of mootrashmari except Sukrashmari.

Patients having calculus size upto 20mm

Stone number one to three

Patients of either sex are taken irrespective of caste, religion and socio-economic status.

D)Exclusion criteria:

Stag horn stone.

In Pregnancy and lactating mother.

AIDS, T.B, Hypertension, diabetes, cardiac pathologies etc.

Patients with prostatic pathologies like BPH, carcinoma of prostate etc.

Patients with pathologies of KUB like urethral stricture, hydronephrosis, nephrotic syndrome, ureteric stricture, renal failure etc.

E)Assessment criteria:

The patients are assessed on the subjective and objective parameters.

Subjective Parameters:

  1. Pain
  2. Pattern of micturition
  1. Hesitancy
  2. Dysuria
  3. Gross haematuria

Objective parameters

1. Tenderness

2. Rise in Temperature

3. Size of calculus

4. Site of calculus

7.3 Dose this study requires any investigations or interventions to be conducted on the patients or other humans or animals? Is so please describe briefly.

The study will be a clinical study. No animal experiment will be conducted.

  1. Urine analysis: Microscopic and Routien

  3. If necessary X-ray and IVP.
