A Catastrophic Event hits Texas!

For this Major Grade project students are working in groups of four. Each group will be given an ecoregion of Texas. As a group decide which landform tourist attraction will be used. Each group will decide which catastrophic event is most likely to occur in the given ecoregion. The catastrophic events are earthquake, flood, hurricane, tornado, fire, drought or tsunami.

Each member of the group has a specific job.

1.  25pts. Travel Guide: This person’s job is make a pamphlet/brochure inviting people to the region and to visit the landform tourist attraction in that ecoregion. This pamphlet/brochure should include how this landform was formed using vocabulary words. Include major cities, temperature, elevation, precipitation and topography.

2.  25 pts. Local Reporter: This person’s job is to write a report explaining what is occurring during the catastrophic event. This report should include how it is affecting the landform (relevant information wind speeds, salt water effects, etc… using vocabulary words

3.  25 pts. Illustrator: Create a poster illustrating the before and after effects of the catastrophic event.

4.  25 pts. Meteorologist: This person is to write a report explaining the specific catastrophic event that hit the group’s region. Using vocabulary words, this person should describe a tornado, earthquake, flood, hurricane, fire, drought or tsunami.

5.  Travel Guide and Illustrator should work closely together, and the Reporter and Meteorologist should work closely together.

6.  5pts extra credit for a “ Live” TV News presentation…props would be great! Video can be placed on You Tube, USB, etc… no longer than 2 minutes in length.
