Athlete Development & Selection Process

·  Indicate how the Alberta Games fits into your sport’s long-term athlete development model for the “Training to Train” athlete.

·  Identify training opportunites for an Alberta Games athlete leading up to the Alberta Games.

·  What event(s) are being proposed for inclusion in the Games and identify the next level of competition in which an Alberta Games athlete would progress? (eg. provincial, national competition, Western Canada Games and/or Canada Games)

·  What is your sport’s targeted age group and the category(ies) of athlete(s) being proposed for the 2016 Alberta Winter Games? If this has changed from previous Games in which your association participated, please explain.

·  For developing sports, or where the ASC has expressed concerns in your previous Games evaluation, please indicate how your association plans to address those issues.

FACILITY REQUIREMENTS

Please outline the type and specification of venue(s) required, and attach minimum facility requirements and specifications (i.e. pool depth, ice surface, dimensions, number of courts, ceiling height, etc.) for the age/category of Alberta Games athletes. (Please include information about the availability of venues for your sport in the Host community and province):

Development and Coach Selection Process

NOTE: Sports are encouraged to name all Zone coaches (or identify the process to recruit & select them) by no later than September 15, 2017 in order to facilitate athlete and coach development.

·  How does your sport plan to identify and recruit coaches to the NCCP accreditation level specified in your technical package for the Games? What is a reasonable timeframe for your association to name Zone coaches? How do you propose to work within this timeframe?

Technical Officials Selection Process

NOTE: Sports will name and register all Technical Officials no later than January 23, 2018.

·  The total number of major technical officials (i.e. certified) including the Provincial Coordinator that will be required to officiate or judge the sport competition, and appointed by the Provincial Association will be .

Of this number, are “In-town” (available within 50km of the host community) and will be from outside this region and designated as “out-of-town” technical officials.

·  (Attach a list of technical official positions/job titles that are required to officiate the event, if possible)

·  What level(s) of technical official are required for the Alberta Games and what are your Associations plans to train, upgrade and mentor officials recruited for the Games?

Provincial Association – Organizational Commitment

·  How will your Association promote the Alberta Games at the zone level within your sport and to your overall membership?

·  Where will information regarding the Alberta Games and your sport’s zone playoffs/selections be posted on your Association web site?

·  Who else in your association, besides the Provincial Sport Coordinator, will be involved with the coordination of Alberta Games activities? Will your association recruit Zone representatives for the Alberta Games?

If your association’s application to participate in the Alberta Games is successful, a technical package will be printed as part of an official Sport Information Book. If you participated in a previous Alberta Winter Games, a copy of your recent technical package can be provided. Please make changes directly on it and return with your application. If you are applying as a new sport, please complete the sport technical package requirements.

SPORT TECHNICAL PACKAGE

ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY: Statement regarding athletes eligible (non-eligible) to participate. Be sure to specify how athletes will be recognized for Zone residency – by where they live, by club participation, etc.

COACH(ES) ELIGIBILITY: Statement regarding coach training or certification (head coaches in Alberta Games sports must be fully certified at Competition – Intro (or equivalent) in their sport, or other recognized training required

AFFILIATION: Required affiliation, teams/individual/coach affiliation deadline, process, association web page contact, phone number, benefits of membership.

PROVINCIAL GAMES REGISTRATION FEE:

Note: A Provincial Games registration fee will be levied to all athletes qualifying to attend the 2018 Alberta Winter Games. The amount of that fee (presently $60 per athlete) will be determined in the months leading to the Games. Provincial Sport Associations will be responsible to collect the registration fee and provide the Alberta Sport Connection with one cheque following the completion of the Games.
