I gave you a land on which you had not labored and cities that you had not built, and you dwell in them. You eat the fruit of vineyards and olive orchards

that you did not plant. – Joshua 24:13

A Building We Did Not Build

Four years ago Janet and I packed up our family and moved to Indy to plant a Christ Community site in the Broad Ripple area. Over time CCC Midtown’s Vision emerged:

To build a gospel-centered movement through missional discipleship resulting in personal conversion, authentic community, and cultural renewal.

By God’s grace we are seeing our vision become a reality in the community we love. Broad Ripple is an eclectic communityand culturally and economically diverse. God in His wisdom placed Midtown in this context to be His city within the city - a gospel counterculture in the heart of Indy’s developing cultural center.

When Midtown began we were worshipping at Trinity Church on Sunday evenings. Trinity graciously opened their building to us and treated us as partners in ministry. Many Sunday evenings, as I would drive to our worship service, I noticeda church building at 56th & Broadway. I often felt led to pray that God would give that building to us. After a year of asking God for that church home I learned that it had been given to another Christian ministry. I experienced a sense of loss as I had been growing in confidence that I was praying in accordance with God’s will.

Fast forward two years. Recently I received a phone call informing me the 56th & Broadway property was for sale. The ministry occupying the building wanted to offer it to Midtown before putting it on the market. They approached Midtown because of what they had heard God was doing in and through our young congregation. Midtown is now a congregation of 200+ adults and children. We have a growing number of young people and families who are moving into Indy to be a part of what the Lord is doing.

Our leadership team is well aware of how rarely a quality building becomes available in our neighborhood. We believe that a church home, such as this, will move us forward in fulfilling our vision to reach the next generation, our neighbors and the nations from Midtown.

In 2012 the property was assessed at $450,000. Over the past two years the ministry that owns it invested more than $100,000 in renovations. They have offered to sell the property to us for $300,000.

What an answer to prayer, but we still need to stop and listen for God’s voice. We are excited about the possibilities and believe that God is providing this to us for His glory. We are humbly seeking his will in prayer and are open to his response. Would you join us in praying as we consider this beautiful historic church in the center of our neighborhood?

Blessings!
