WHAT?

A brand new project designed to empower young dancers/future choreographers and their teachers to approach choreography from a fresh perspective.

The 3 day retreat at Pavilion Dance will introduce participants to a range of new view points and experiences through practical activity and provocation from some of the country’s leading creative professionals. Sessions will include choreography, live art, music production, lighting design, leadership &, technology. Each day will explore
a different theme: Creativity, Risk, and Leadership. Over the course of the retreat the young people will create and choreograph a 1 minute piece on their dance teacher.

At the end of the retreat it is hoped that the young people will have the initiative and skills to lead their current youth group in producing a brand new piece of work. These pieces will be showcased at a regional performancein early2011.

Saturday 23rd October 11am till 10pm, Sunday 24th October 930am till 8pm, Monday 25th October 930am till 5pm

WHERE?

Pavilion Dance - the new regional dance centre opening in Bournemouth Autumn 2010.

WHO?

This programme is for young dancers/future choreographers and their dance teachers, with an innovative spirit and a willingness to experiment with new ideas. Each young person must be accompanied by their dance teacher, who will undertake their own learning during the retreat and support the young person in developing their piece.

The project caters for 20 young people and 20 youth dance teachers:

12 young people and their 12 dance teachersfrom across the South West and 8 young people and their 8 dance teachers from Bournemouth.

WHY?

To give 20 young people across the South West the chance to create work which is owned by them and is relevant to them.

To give 20 dance teachers the chance to develop their ideas and skills and work with leading creatives from a range of backgrounds.

To give 20 young people the chance to develop greater leadership skills

HOW MUCH?

(The full cost of running the Inquiring Minds retreat is £230 per person).

This includes:

  • 2 nights’ Bed & Breakfast
  • Lunch all three days & dinner on the first night
  • 3 days of workshops and practical activity

Young people are request to contribute £25 to the cost of their place on the course.

Due to the additional commitment required from dance teachers in supporting their young people during and after the course we are not asking dance teachers to contribute to the cost of their own place.

CRITERIA?

The young person applying is 16 - 21 years of age

Applicants need to demonstrate:

  • Understanding of what can be gained from Inquiring Minds
  • Enthusiasm for the aims of the programme
  • Openness to new ideas and a willingness to take on a new challenge
  • The potential to lead others

Clear support for collaborative working and commitment to the programme must be shown from the young person’s dance teacher

Applications from under 18 years olds are supported by a parent/carer

If the applicant is successful a parental consent form will be required for full participation in Inquiring Minds
