Minutes

The meeting started at 12:00pm with the following members; Kyla Wood- school nurse, Emily Craig- teacher, Cathy Harrell- cafeteria manager, Kim Boop- ACE coordinatior, Leslie Edens- Principal/ Administrator, Pam Jean- Teacher in attendance.

Kyla Wood LVN:

·  Discussed and determined the CISD SHAC Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Goals:

ü  Purpose:

Research shows that healthy children do better in school, from attendance to behavior to academics to overall performance. The CISD Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) works with the district to help school communities support good health and academics.

ü  Vision:

All CISD students will grow academically, socially, and physically to their full potential.

ü  Mission:

The CISD SHAC strives to improve student and staff performance by promoting age-appropriate wellness programs and healthy, balanced lifestyles.

ü  Goals:

The goal of CISD SHAC is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment whereby all students gain a since of self-worth and develop and maintain lifelong healthy behaviors. To achieve this goal, the CISD SHAC will engage in ongoing review, discussion, and recommendations for comprehensive health education programs to include:

Promoting quality healthy education programs

Modeling and encouraging the achievement of life long physical fitness

Enhancing school health services

Supporting social and emotional well-being

Creating safe and positive learning environments

Promoting faculty and staff wellness

Encouraging school, family, and community involvement

·  Bloodborne Pathogen Implementation

Employee Training and Control Plan is complete and in place for CISD.

Information regarding the Control Plan and its processes were discussed.

·  SHAC SUB COMMTTEE Members chosen = Kyla Wood LVN- School Nurse, Derrick Jones- Athletic Director/ Coach, Leslie Edens- Principal, Pam Jean- Teacher

·  Discussion of House Bill 460 sec 3= Detection + Education of students at risk for suicide.

Annual education and training for DeAnn Dent- CISD Counselor + Kyla Wood LVN- School Nurse and 1 community SHAC member.

·  Discussion of House Bill 1018= Fitness recommendation regarding fitness program and district evaluation of the engagement of the CISD health program.

It was determined that no health and wellness program is in use at this time.

CATCH and SPARK Wellness programs were evaluated, discussed and it was determined that the SPARK Wellness program is what SHAC would like to adopt and follow.

Decided an accountability rating system for CISD Community and Student Engagement.

SHAC rates CISD Wellness/Health and Physical Education as RECOGNIZED as of December 2013.

Relay for Life/ Relay Recess date of participation will determined at the next SHAC meeting.

It was voted with a majority consensus that the above was recommended, adopted, and implemented, for CISD and the CISD SHAC. The next meeting will be within the first two weeks of February 2014. This meeting adjourned at 1:55pm.
