Create enquiry questions with the children, ideally these questions should be generated by the children but could include the following:
E.g. What is a community?
How do they show they belong to their faith?
Where do they meet?
Do they go to a special place of worship?
Explore
How did the world come to be?

Watch BBC clips about belonging to the Muslim community.

Show the children a picture or artefact, e.g. Qur’an, picture of mosque, prayer beads, Muslim pupils in various places doing ordinary things, festivals, ceremonies etc.
Discuss with the children their relevance to the Muslim faith.

Children answer the key question ‘What does it mean to belong to the Muslim community?’ with one of the following activities:
·  Design a prayer mat. DO NOT DRAW ANYTHING LIVING ON THE PRAYER MAT. This is not acceptable to Muslims.
·  Design posters or leaflets showing how Muslims belong to their community.
